Normally I would recommend Abernathy and Spencer. This was our second year out there, but their customer service alone leaves this place incredibly undesirable. I know everyone wakes up on the wrong side but the owner was unbelievable rude. Anyone that has been to a nursery knows that tags do go missing. I don't think I've walked through a nursery and NOT seen a tag missing off a plant before. It happens. So there is where the review goes sour on the part of this trip out to A&S
At checkout, after deciding that we picked up too many potted herbaceous peonies (shrub peonies), we ended up only taking half of them at check out. Dave, who I found out was the owner of the establishment, stopped to look at all the plants after we told him we would only take half, looks up at my mom and accuses us of taking the tag off one of them. First off, there was no tag on that particular shrub peony. We grabbed it along with the other peony with a tag, that we assumed was the same. Leaves looked the same, it was there among the group. It was just the healthier of the others so I'm not going to not pick it because it's missing a tag. When we told Dave that we didn't remove the tag, his response after a grunting noise "come on, you must've taken the tag off if you picked up the pot." My mom and I just stood there pretty perplexed. He then made a disapproving noise and said we could check out and "don't worry I'll put them back." We told him again we didn't remove the tag and he didn't respond other than another disapproving noise. I don't know about other customers but I don't like being accused of something I didn't do and then being told I was lying. Apparently at Abernathy and Spencers once you pick up a potted plant, that's it, you are now wholly responsible for the tag whether it's there or not. Didn't realize y'all had a do not change your mind policy before check out. Long story short, never buying plants from there again and y'all lost a normally happy go lucky customer and plant/flower enthusiast. We gladly went to Betty Azalea's in Fairfax, VA and bought a ton of peonies without any incident. And oh btw one of Betty Azalea's workers even joked that tags get lost and switched... food...
Read moreEvery since I can remember Abernathy has been our go to place for Plants and garden supplies. To this day it is still one of my favorite places to be! Not only are you supporting local businesses but you are actually getting better quality plants in my opinion. I bought an Aloe plant at Lowe’s that looked healthy but to my dismay it was entirely rotted in the inside, didn’t even last me a month. Whereas I bought the same type of aloe from Abernathy and it’s lasted me for years. I’d definitely recommend this place, we live out in Leesburg and still always do our best to come here for plants. Not to mention the beautiful birds they let roam free and the property. Most of them will definitely bite you if get in their personal space, but they aren’t aggressive, and they seems happy and well taken care of. However there is one bird who is the sweetest bird I’ve ever seen named Lola, and whenever we go she always wants to say hi. If you are passionate about plants then this is the...
Read moreThis place is a gem. It's my favorite nursery/garden center in Western Loudoun County.
The staff are all super friendly and helpful from top to bottom. The inventory covers everything you might need: all varieties of outdoor plants, trees, and shrubs; indoor and outdoor; gardening supplies, mulch, compost, and tools; a great selection of statuary, pottery, and fountains. They also have farm fresh eggs and some other goodies stocked from nearby farms, which I always grab when I'm there.
I recently moved to West Loudoun County and the house we bought has a great yard, but I'm not a very experienced gardener. Two of the owners here have gone out of their way to teach me about the trees I have in the yard, how to take care of them, and they've given me great recommendations.
This place is definitely worth your...
