The Quapaw Tribal Museum is a cute little quaint place to visit. Nestled off Route 66 in the Northeastern Corner of Oklahoma and right in the heart of the Quapaw Nation.
Quapaw, Oklahoma is the first town you come into when traveling West and the last before you leave the state when traveling East on the historic Route 66.
Although the museum is small, there is plenty of history to gather when visiting with a nice array of tribal artifacts to browse through in well-organized display cases.
The facility is well-maintained and cleaned, the staff is friendly, everything is all handicap accessible, entry to the museum is free and there is a decent-sized parking lot.
I will mention there is not a museum tour guide who is well knowledgeable about the artifacts on display as most items are on loan from tribal members. That was a let down but most of the artifacts are well marked and labeled and that does help to identify what the items are.
I did learn that the display cases in the lobby upon entry do rotate every few months as a traveling exhibit. It helps to give the museum a fresh new look for those who frequent the facility often or passersby traveling can stop and revisit to see what is new on display for the season.
There is also a small museum gift shop to browse in the lobby as well. Be sure to check out the renowned Pendleton collection.
Overall, I recommend a visit to the Quapaw Tribal Museum. As a small town local, it is one of the cultural gems of...
