We visited the Saturday before mother's day. I was excited about trying a new place from the reviews and pictures. Some arrived and it was busy, told there would be an hour wait. We waited, and after about 4 tables left for greener pastures, we were called.
We were initially sat at an outside table but watching the service to the other tables while we waited, I decided we wanted an inside table. Here is where it all started to go sideways. We were told if we wanted an inside table we had to go back on the waiting list! 2 minutes after we were seated ( we were sitting in an empty outside table while we waited)
We were served drinks and ordered the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer. About 30 minutes passed and our scallops arrived, our drinks were not topped up or offered at that time. At one point, it appeared the owner took out classes to refill and didn't return with them. A few minutes later after out food arrived, we were told they were out of glasses and they were washing us some.
The scallops looked great but that was it, no seasoning on them and they were almost not done in the center. Looks like they were cooked in a broiler, so looked good but were average for taste.
I ordered the special, the grilled redfish and home fries. My mother had the shrimp platter and my wife got the seafood platter grilled.
The one thing that stood out was nothing grilled had any seasoning at all. I am not a big fan of salty food, but there was nothing but maybe a bit of oil on it. The redfish was blackened on 1 side to a crust but no salt pepper or other seasoning to be found.
The grouper in my wife's combo was underdone, but we didn't know that at the time (she planned on having it the next day), her shrimp were almost blackened as well. She asked for everything grilled and the oysters were fried I don't know what was going on but I can't see how that many southerners can rave about the food with no seasoning on it. There was not even salt on the home fries.
The only thing that saved my meal was the sauce on the redfish, it at least had some flavor to it.
Our server was nice and was working tables inside and out but I'm not sure I will be back and for sure won't recommend it for now, at least not at $155 for 3 meals and 1 piece of chicken.
Oh, we ordered a chicken parmesan to go, no sauce, grilled, with a piece of tomato on top with a sprinkling of cheese. Finished in a broiler, so the outside was dry and rubbery. If you want to make your dishes your own, great, just give your customers a heads up!
To be honest, it looked like they opened 2 weeks ago not 18 months ago, it was a goat rope, from start to finish.
Atmosphere was a question mark, we spent our entire...
Read moreWe first entered and were promptly greeted and seated by one of the owners. Small and quaint would best describe the atmosphere there, with light music playing in the background, light enough one could listen or have an adult conversation. We ordered two appetizers, the shrimp and the bacon wrapped scallops. The shrimp had great flavor, but to me was served at room temperature or just above, which was fine for my wife as she’d prefer they weren’t over cooked. The scallops on the other hand came out cold in the middle as if they had come straight out of the fridge or freezer. We notified the server who promptly and professionally took them and bright them back when they were done. I thought the bacon, although delicious, over powered the taste of the scallops.
My wife and I both ordered there special which was smoked prime rib. All servings are served “medium rare” so they say. I thought mine was above medium rare. It was a thin slice of prime rib with decent flavor but a little chewy. The dipping sauce was excellent for the prime rib and also the French fries I ordered which were excellent! The second side I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes which were delicious! My wife and I both loved them. She ordered the Mac and cheese for her second side and they were really well done!
I would give this adventure really a 3.5. Don’t let that fool you because I believe it was just my experience on that day and time. My wife and I are already looking forward to returning and trying several more things that looked good on the menu. Prices were a little high we thought but considering everything not bad. They do not serve or sell alcohol but they will let you bring your own in as we saw others do. They even brought them...
Read moreThe food was decent. There was nothing spectacular about the filet we got. They messed up the kids pizza order (gave us pepperoni when we ordered cheese) and when they brought out the replacement pizzas, the dough wasn't cooked all the way through. We sent the replacements back and ordered the steak bite appetizers for one of the kids that wanted the pizza and they piled on the meat (our oldest ordered the same so we had a basis for comparison) so they did try to make it right. The service was pleasant enough, though our waitress seemed like she was having an off night. She was pushing through it and being pleasant instead of giving in and being frustrated (which is difficult to do). Now for the great. The cheese sticks were obviously hand breaded and fried, and the breading they used was light and sweet and went really well with the cheese. My spouse would want to go for just those (we have traveled just for fried cheese before). The collard greens were nice and tender and not mushy at all, and had a meaty flavor without being salty. The grilled and bacon wrapped asparagus was different but good. Heads up, there is no beer or wine at this location, though it seemed ok to BYOB. My spouse and I got to just chill after dinner as our kids ended up making friends with the owner's granddaughter, so the place is super kid friendly. There's a little corner with some books and an etch-a-sketch to jeep them entertained while you wait for the food. All in all, a unique destination to eat in Quincy and definitely a place to at...
