Wednesday, January 24, 2018, I stopped in for dinner for the fisrt time ever. I had heard many good things about the place so decided to make the drive to Radclffe, Ia. The restaurant is easy to find in the middle of their main street, downtown.
Many small towns around the state have hidden gems like this place and I always love checking them out. It's a cute and really clean little place with a "saloon" on one side of the building and dining room on the other. The bar room is quaint and designed in an old west theme. Very comfortable place for a pre-dinner drink.
After parusing the dinner menu, I narrowed my choices down to the Ribeye or the special of the night, Prime Rib. I asked the waitress what she would suggest and she told me that the Rrime Rib is their most popular meal. They offered three sizes and I'm glad I went with the 20 oz., (small size), because after a trip to the excellent salad bar, that came with my meal, I would not have had room for a bigger piece of meat.
I wish I had taken a picture of my plate when it was delivered to my table because it was truly a beefeater's work of art. The prime rib was a perfectly cut, end piece about 2 inches thick. I ordered it medium and it was perfectly cooked. It was incredibly flavorful and the texture was perfect with very little fat.
I'm an old guy and have eaten a lot of prime rib in my day but I can honestly say that this was the best prime rib I have eaten in my entire life. Mind blown.
I told the owners, (husband-wife team), the same, and how much I enjoyed it. The gentleman told me I was lucky to get a slice that thick because it was an end piece. Perhaps, but I'll be going back for whatever piece they want to serve me. It was absolutely perfect and an overall great experience from the food to the service. They hit a home run.
There was a huge group of folks in the bar when I arrived and only a couple of other booths were filled in the dining room but by the time I got my meal, the bar emptied into the dining room and the party started to order their meals. Turned out to be a large group of veterinarians from around the state. Irony?
The owner thanked me for the compliments and told me a bit about their business and how they will be hosting an event soon for the governor. I can't wait to go back and try the steaks and other menu items.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe've given them a couple chances and it's been pretty awful both times. We won't be going back. The first time a couple years back it took an hour and forty-five minutes from the time we sat down till we got our food, we had a reservation and waiting nearly an hour to be seated. Food came back over cooked and lacking flavor. We were never offered a refill on our waters either. We decided to try again because others have insisted it must have just been a bad night. Took 15 minutes from entering to get waters, 45 minutes to get food, no refills offered, the chicken is certainly fried in the same oil as the fish because it was very fishy....fries were over cooked and hard, the gravy tasted soured and oily, and the garlic toast tasted like pan spray. It was disappointing. The waitress was a sweet heart. She was alone, over booked, and still so kind. She was quite tall and leaned in to hear us speak which I appreciated so much over the typical "huh" us quiet voiced folks get. Overall I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent here on Thursday night āpasta night.ā I suppose it is all you can eat, but maybe only Joey Chestnut could eat more than one plate. They actually fill up a platter. You have your choice of several fresh cut veggies to add yo your pasta. Then you pick from grilled chicken, pepperoni, prime rib, bacon, ground beef, or shrimp to add to your pasta. You have a choice of fettuccini, bowtie pasta, or penne. They put all your choices into a large pan and cook it up in oil till it is piping hot, and then pour it onto your platter. You then get your choice of marinara or alfredo sauce, and slices of buttered garlic french bread. They also had fresh salad available to start while the pasta line thinned out. The service was as good as it could be. The place was...
