I was in the market for an Old Town Sportsman 120PDL and really wanted to buy from a local shop over a box store. Stopped in this past Sunday around noon (4/7/24) and there was 1 employee, a nice enough younger guy. He was working on wiring up something on an older coupleās Sportsman, or at least it appeared that was the case. I told him exactly what I was looking for and he directed me to go look round upstairs. After wondering around for about 30 min, I had lot of questions but, he never came up to check on me so, I figured Iād leave. As I was walking out he wished me a nice day but, I was looking for information and to buy an almost $4k kayak but couldnāt get the help. I ended up going to Bass Pro and getting my questions answered and buying my kayak. I understand the challenges of small businesses but, acknowledgement goes a long way. A simple ā Iāll be with as soon as I canā would have been enough. I would have even left and went Bach an hour later, not a problem. I will say, he was polite and, this store has TONS of Kayak accessories. Iāll probable go back for some of that stuff but, itās too bad I couldnāt buy the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHave been searching for a new kayak and have always been a Hobie fan but over the past few months was intrigued by the Old Town Sportsman line. After extensive YouTube, website and owner conversations, decided on the Sportsman 106 MK. Now, where do I buy? Luckily I found Ki at Mountain Road Trading Post in Raymond, NH. New owner of the business that has been around for 40 years. Wow! What a fantastic buying experience. Troy helped me decide between the Sportsman 120 and the Sportsman 106 and could easily have talked me into the 120 for $1400 more but no, he listened to how I was going to use the yak and helped me make the right decision! Now that's why I live to buy local! Jake helped me load my new yak on my Jeep Gladiator and now I can't wait for the ice to go away!
If you are looking for a kayak, canoe or just ready to add builds yi your current yak, check out Mountain Road Trading post in Raymond, NH, ask for Troy and tell them Jim Heyes sent you! Thank you Ki,...

As a lifelong kayaker, my Dad is very particular and testing the boat before he bought it was a non-negotiable. I am so glad we found Mountain Road Trading Post. Troy and Jesse were incredibly knowledgeable, patient and attentive. They spent a lot of time listening to my dadās questions and preferences, offering thoughtful guidance and letting him test out several boats. Their expertise and low-pressure approach made the whole process feel relaxed and enjoyable. The shop has a great inventory, and we really appreciated the time and care they put into helping us navigate the options. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality gear and...
