0 stars would be way too many. NOTE: The nurses are phenomenal, this review is not regarding their care. They are kind, gentle, and wonderful. They get 5 āļø
BUT, the doctors in the ER? šššššš
My Dad went to the emergency room for symptoms of another severe flare up of pancreatitis. History of 3-5 times a year due to a necrotizing pancreas. THIS VERY hospital has been treating him for over a year, usually needing to life flight him or transfer via EMS when he gets this sick. Today however after being sick for 4 days we took him in weak with extreme abdominal pain, chest pain when breathing, and confusion. NUMEROUS times while in the hospital bed my Mom and I had to keep telling him he couldnāt get out of bed hooked to monitors, because he thought he was in the hospital after Vietnam. Dr. M thought this man was healthy enough to discharge after 3hours and 22minutes, including the time to discharge him. Heās too painful to lay down, but can only really wake up due to nausea or exclaim in pain that we cannot control. I called and spoke to the doctor who claims he treated him correctly, and when I explained he was wrong and his current status and previous hx, he became defensive and then hung up on me after he got done telling me ānobody knows who you areā even though Iāve been documented on his chart since the first day, they just donāt understand what a name change is. He also stated I was never bedside today, say hi to me on the cameras and thank the CNA for bringing him blankets when I requested, twice to be exact. Look for the person in all green going in and out of the only bed that had someone in it in the ER. I informed Dr. M my 78 year old father was extremely confused, and yet because my Dad is now refusing to go to the hospital bc ālast week they said I was fineā (again confused, because that was less that 10 hours ago) the doctor stated āsounds like he isnāt incoherent after all is heā that is a direct quote. This picture of my Dad was taken 4 hours post discharge - he looks really healthy doesnāt he Lower Umpqua Community Hospital? Btw he is not sleeping, he is just completely out of it.
ā¼ļøUPDATEā¼ļø - My father was extremely sick last night, as pancreatitis tends to be. Pain was severe, no sleep, sweating through a T-shirt an hour. Due to the care received the previous night and being in so much pain he said heād rather just lie down until the shift change rather than sit for that long driving to Coos Bat. At 7:52am we returned to the emergency room. When we arrived the doctor that first saw him was wonderful, caring, and focused. He was a wonderful doctor and admitted my Dad. My Mom and I went home to take a short nap due to no sleep, however not long after we arrived home we received a call from my Dad almost in tears stating he would like to come home due to a female Doctor we were not alerted was involved with my Dads case continued to berate and question my Dad about his alcohol consumption. We had already had the discussion with the admitting doctor and nurses, plus last nights questioning of the same topic. I understand the initial question by a doctor, however being berated after numerous doctors over the span of 12 hours had had this conversation is absurd. We requested a blood alcohol test due to my Dad not having a single sip of alcohol in 13 years to prove he hadnāt so he could receive proper care without judgement - and the doctor declined. He felt very judged, hurt, and no longer trusted her with his care since she didnāt trust him. He did not want to be treated with the incorrect inclination on the cause. My dad chose to be discharged and be sick on the couch hoping to find some way to handle the pain to travel to see OHSU tomorrow.
My Dad was a Navy Hospital Corpsmen in Vietnam. He understands the body functions very well, and knows something is very wrong.
If you need emergency care in Reedsport, Iād suggest calling whatever veterinary clinic offers emergency visits than step foot here.
Update 9/4/2025 Went in today to talk to a man from the respiatory Dept. named Mike T . .I was there to recieve instructions on how to use a devise . Mike broke it down into terms that i could understand . very professional and human like . thanks date 10/8/21 went to have blood drawn , Christa the phlebotomist , is likely the very best at doing her job that i have ever experienced ..I'm 70. Update entered the ER Aug. 11 21 with a very bad infection , at least from a layman's point of view all the staff members that attended to me for over 3 hours were very kind and considerate while doing their job, , a shout out to ER doctor Randell Fryer , not many doctors like him anymore , He went out of his way to help treat me . Up date 12 2020. Last count i heard was 16 healthcare related staff have resigned or quite from this area in the last 6 months , When i talked to a administrator a few days ago she told me that " the good ones are staying " I knew at least one nurse and one hospital administrator who left who were professional and kind people. Her attitude amazes me . this shout out is for Lori M. Groves , Chief Financial Officer . On 6 30 2020 .Lori went out of her way to resolve an issue i was having with - dunes family health care - seems like someone failed to transfer all my Medicare billing information into their new computer system , then implied that it was my responsibility to correct their mistake . So i went over to Lori , and she printed out the correct information , I took it back to dunes and gave it to them , the receptionist just took it out of my hand and never said another word . so i walked away . Have been having problem after problem over there since they decided to change over their primary system during a medical national emergency. They always come up with a rational reason why they transferred to a new system at this time , bad timing My doctor during an appointment gave me a print out to take over to the hospital for lab work , he said it was because they were having problems communicating with the hospitals systems . So i went over there and they said that the printout had wrong information on it ' This kind of stuff happened over and over again one issue i had with them was that their new system showed that i was a no show recently for an appointment . [ This was weeks after the new system was installed ] there was no truth to their statement , they said that they would fix that - " glitch " in the new system , wow I have talked to - several - other people in the community who have experienced even different kinds...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSecond edit...this hospital has earned all 5 stars. This place used to be so substandard that it was mind-blowing. They have really turned around. I do not trust the medical field after losing my leg due to medical malpractice. I trust these people. They have an OUTSTANDING staff of doctors and nurses that genuinely care about people. From check-in with security, registration, triage, testing, diagnoses, treatment, and discharge, it is all top-notch.
Edit: I've got nothing but good things to say about the wound care nurses at LUH. They are all so kind, knowledgeable and focused on patient care.
The rest of the hospital is worse, is that's possible, than the way it was when I made the first review. It's horrible.
Patient privacy doesn't matter. I sat and listened to a woman's medical history, what was going on with her at the moment, and the fact that a rectal examination was in order. I listened to the doctor assigned to her call another doctor and discuss her medication list.
Professionalism is lost on this hospital. They misdiagnosed my husband in the past and what I've been through with these blood clots over the last four months, I was dismissed as quickly as I walked in because they didn't have staff available. Ridiculous.
Original review: The only reason I bother to give one star is the stellar performance of the staff that checked my husband in last night. The nurses were super nice, but lacked knowledge. When asked what a sphygmomanometer is, neither were able to tell what is was, though one thought she might have used one in another department. The doctor was arrogant and cocky with no bedside manner to speak of. He acted as if he were above answering questions, though my husband and I both have extensive medical knowledge. My husband's pain was dismissed and not addressed at all until I insisted and then wasn't addressed appropriately. In the end, the idiot doctor sent my husband home with a potential bowel obstruction and an appointment with a surgeon. I have given up completely on the medical profession, but I will fight until my last breath for proper care for my husband. Blood clots and bowel obstruction may be pre-existing, but it doesn't make it go away because it was there before he got there. It has to be treated and he and I have continuously been denied proper medical care by cocky, uneducated, indoctrinated people.
Just an update, he still wasn't ok the next day so I took him to BAH. They kept him for two days. Amazing what happens when someone knows what...
