Riggins Whitewater Market — Local services in Riggins

This store is the only game in town as far as groceries and essentials go. Given that, it's a heck of a lot better than it needs to be, and it has a pretty wide selection. The staff are all friendly and very helpful. So why 3 stars? Because the owners choose to mark up inventory 60%- the average is only 20%. And why do they do it? Because they know they have a captive audience in Riggins, since it's an hour or more to find a decent grocery store otherwise (although apparently, according to the owner below, the mark-up is imaginary but ALSO necessary...?). This is a fine supermarket for being in such a small river rafting city. Among items I didn't expect to find (but did) is ice cream maker salt and Sabra hummus. Now if they would only stock Garden Burgers for the vegetarian in the group and sugar snap peas for the hummus, I'll change my review to five stars. Ha!
