I visited Better Place Forests along the Rock River at one of their open house gatherings. I can't say enough good about this place and this concept. I believe that when we die, our souls go to be with God; but those who remain in this life often need an actual physical place to visit and remember us. Better Place Forests provides that. I am a Presbyterian minister, so I am often with people at the crucial moments of their lives, and walk alongside many a family as they decide how to mark the passing of a loved one. The sustainable, sensitive approach of Better Place Forests is something the world has long needed. As someone who frequently officiates memorial services and graveside services, I know the amount of thoughtful work that must have gone into the Better Place approach. On a personal note, my father was cremated and his ashes spread on the country property where my parents lived. We thought that this property would stay in the family, so that we would always have the opportunity to go stand in that place and remember my dad. Unfortunately, a family member sold the property, and we would now have to go stand in a stranger's driveway if we wanted to visit that place. If we'd had something like Better Place Forests, we would not have to experience the additional grief of dad being "noplace." Better Place Forests provides a much-needed alternative to earth burial in a cemetery, while still offering a place to go, to visit, and to remember...
Read moreI’ve been searching for an alternative memorial (vs a traditional in ground casket) for several years. I came upon Better Place Forest a couple of years ago while searching. I finally booked a tour with Jimmy the General Manager. The forest was everything (if not more) than I expected along the Rock River. Jimmy was knowledgeable, a delight to talk with, and never pressured us into making any decisions on the spot..(that in itself was a huge relief). Other traditional funeral services hounded my husband and I to make a decision within a couple hours of just talking to them. This visit was peaceful, relaxing, visual, and very personal. I understand it’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking for an eco friendly memorial, please check out Better Place Forests. They have so many options to make your memorial so...
Read moreAs someone who does not know much about trees, and had never walked in a forest before, my visit to Better Place Forests - Rock River, IL was a very good experience. This alternative to a traditional burial really appeals to me.
I love there are three distinct areas to explore. My guide Gina was very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to helping me choose favorite trees, and when I left I had a list of eleven to choose from. She also explained the pricing, the memorial ceremony, the final placing of the ashes...anything I asked about. Both Gina and Jimmy are enjoyable people to work with, and they will honestly answer any questions. I am very happy with my chosen tree, and look forward to visiting again with my family...
