Please avoid bringing your team here, as there are plenty of other indoor sports facilities within a 20-minute drive if you’re coming from Dallas/Garland/Mesquite.
I’ve played 2 sports here across multiple leagues and age groups. There’s a lot to to unpack here.
I can attest that this facility is extremely poorly run. You can tell within the first 5 seconds of walking in. The Air Conditioning and fans rarely work and never seemed to be replaced. There’s hundreds of people here on a busy day and the fact that this place hasn’t had a heat stroke or heat exhaustion occurrence (to my knowledge) is incredible. It reeks of mildew and sweat, the bathrooms are old and in disarray, and while the courts seems to be somewhat kept, the soccer feels are abhorrent. Pellet distribution is off on the edges so there is no cushioning in the majority of the field. There’s patches one one field as a Bandaid solution, but if stops peeling back as it has before, someone could get seriously injured. There’s no netting in between courts to stop stray balls and there’s constantly items in the middle of said courts that people have tripped over constantly, with no push for upkeep. There’s constant interruptions in game from flyaway balls into other courts, and coach staff are constantly complaining about it. If you’re there to watch your kids play, the seating is not any better anywhere.
There are plenty of leagues and age division to choose from, but the league management is also a minus. A majority of the people who play here are very friendly and receptive of newcomers. However, there are also many adults here who take the competitions way too seriously. The facility does a poor job of roster management and follow-ups which some people have taken advantage of, bringing in people who are too advanced or bring in whomever it takes to win games… all over a T-shirt at the end of a season. There are no true Beginner leagues in soccer or volleyball here. The facility does not regularly do roster checks to look at age restrictions any players can freely play in multiple leagues. The facility also constantly overbooks their own courts or fumbles scheduling. There are many instances where teams are not notified with ample time on changes made, and many times teams don’t show up.
Basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, a gym, a dance studio and regular events are done here across all age groups so cash is coming I . A lot of the improvements would cost money, and it’s a business, that much is understood. But take pride in your facility, everyone knows you’re making bank. Unfortunately for those in Kaufman and Rockwall, there aren’t many other choices, and...
Read moreFor my time at the RISE, I had experience in one thing and that is the basketball program. I played there for a little over 3 years on a team that my buddies and I had put together. From the very first game it was VERY evident that the referees had no idea what they were doing. I have played basketball for over a decade and now play intramural basketball in college, so I have a good ground on which to make that judgment. This poor referee situation causes games to get out of hand and bad things to happen. In my second to last season at the RISE we were playing in the playoffs and some kid shoved me to the ground because we were winning and he didnt like that. I landed in the bleachers and could have very likely been hurt. The ref gave him a technical foul (should have been ejected) and we filed a complaint. Then in my final season at the RISE a similar situation came up and again nothing happened. Bottom line is that this poor reffing WILL get someone hurt at some point. Just to put it in perspective I have played with the YMCA, TAPPS, TCAL, TCAF, other local basketball leagues, and intramural basketball and this is BY FAR the worst. I have noticed that many other people have made the same comments about the reffing situation in the basketball program. THE REFS ABSOLUTELY DO PLAY FAVORITES FOR THE RISE TEAMS. And that is not just me saying that because they beat us or something, I have been beaten by more teams than RISE teams and accept loss and try to improve but these refs are just flat out blatant about it. Please take this into consideration if you are considering having your children play at the RISE. *IN RESPONSE TO YOUR RESPONSE You may want to check your records a little more closely. I am not 40 years old. I am actually 18 and currently a student at a university. Also to your point about losing and blaming it on refs. First, as I stated above I have played basketball for over a decade and over that course have lost a lot of games. I don't blame my losses on refs. Second, one of the seasons that I played at the RISE my team actually won your championship. Throughout this season we still complained about the refs being unfair even though we were the best team and winning. And actually the incident I described did not receive a hearing. After a complaint it received no action at all. The second incident I alluded to but did not go into detail about was the one...
Read moreI can only speak about their soccer program. The facility is huge with two soccer fields that are not in the best chape. The cost to bring a team here it's high compare to other facilities with the same sides of field. I brought my team here for 3 seasons. The competition is not that bad, most teams are at the same level. The only negative that I had during the 3 seasons were the reffs, not all but most of them have lots of favoritism. I respected their callings because I did not wanted to get ejected from the game, but there is a point where enough it's enough.
Our last season most of my players (u10) were getting hurt because the other teams kept sliding from behind and hitting my players at their ankles. In several of our games I complained to the reff but they would not listen and of course in one of our games a player kept sliding without any regards from the reff. Later that same player slide tackle from behind my best player almost braking his leg. The reff stopped the game, both coaches came into the field to check on my player that was literally crying from the pain. The facilities manager or supervisor came in to the middle of the field to examine my player. Thank God nothing was broken but my player was unable to continue and I had to carry my player out on my arms and he was not able to finish the season doe to the injury . To our surprise, after my player was injured we all thought that the other player was going to be ejected from the game, well nothing happened, not even a two minute warning or time out. After talking to the reff, he stated that it was an accident. That was no accident and I stated to the reff that per Rice rules, sliding was prohibited and through out the entire game the other team kept sliding and sliding without even one call from the Reff to stopped it. Accident I can accept but an intentional sliding from behind to my best player that didn't even had the ball it's not an accident.
My team parents were furious and with right. They didn't want to return to this facility so as soon as the season was over we left and never came back. I took my kids team and Adult team out.
I will not waste my money here. After this incident, three other teams that I know have left this organization due to...
