I had an experience with the owner of The Red Carrot that has clearly made me feel the transaction was shady at best. My father committed suicide years ago and after his death, my brother found this business during the COVID pandemic to clear out my father's belongings. No charitable organizations in the Rutland area were accepting any donations at that time because of the fear of the COVID virus. The owner and I agreed to a price for my fathers belongings based on what we found in the apartment as we walked the apartment together. After I signed the paperwork for the agreed upon amount and while the apartment was being emptied, I came across two hidden gold pocket watches I did not know my father owned and were not know to either the owner of the Red Carrot or to me at the time we signed the contract. I was emotionally upset at the time and turned over these watches to the owner without thinking about how they add to the value of contents of my fathers belongings. I'll always remember what the owner asked me after I gave him the watches: "Is there anything else that was hidden?" This is to let people know about an experience that should be considered before doing business with this company. This is something Charity R. Clark the Attorney General of Vermont will be...
Read moreMy husband, son and I were in Rutland for like 20 minutes on our Vermont trip, and stopped by this antique shop. We love secondhand and antique shops of all kinds, and my 11 year old is used to looking around for the things he collects as well. We stumbled on an unopened box of Fleer 1990 baseball cards, and my son was super excited, being a baseball card collector. My son was considering the $25 price tag, since his general net worth is about $100 at the moment, but decided to buy it anyway. That's when the owner let us know that price tag was the original 1990 price tag, and he had just bought the cards from someone and hadn't had a chance to price them appropriately yet. Understandable, and I explained to my son that it might cost a great deal more, and his face fell. The owner was on his phone, likely looking up the actual worth of the box, and then said "You know what? He can have it for $25. I like a young collector." A really wonderful human moment of generosity and kindness. I mean, maybe it wasn't worth much more than $25 anyway, but even if that's the case, who cares. My kid was thrilled and had a whole unboxing experience and now has some awesome cards and a good story about a wonderful...
Read moreLovely antique shop in picturesque Vt. Each room was adorned lovingly with treasure after treasure. When I called, to inquire about an item that I had seen in person, the owner answered. She was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful in that I had technology barriers. When I returned, in person, the shopkeeper was also very polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely a delightful stop one should make, if in the area. I am...
