In searching the Maine coast for funky new lobster rolls shacks we came across Ellis Island in Saco. We had a short day trip up to the Goose Rock area to visit with some friends and the reviews looked promising. First off, the Camp Ellis General Store is the quintessential of neighborhood stores in small Maine costal areas. You could tell that this was a regular stop for those that live and stay in the area. We were greeted by a very friendly employee (I think one of the owners) and welcomed to the store. We chatted it up on where we were from, what brings us back to Maine year after year and she share the same but finished her story with “loved it so much we moved here”. We ordered up 6 rolls, a 4 pack of local brews, a big bag of Deep River chips and a couple of the home made cookies (the s’mores one was fresh out of the over, and extremely good!). We are traditionally a butter only, but these had just a small amount of mayo on the bun, with the hot butter over the meat. The meat was fresh and plentiful, and the bun toasted on the outside. I prefer no mayo, but these were good in their own way and I like to try different takes of the Maine style rolls. I will say that the small amount of mayo on the roll is hands down better then being mixed with the meat like many other places. They have a couple picnic tables outside the store to eat at, and made for a perfect stop for lunch. No spectacular views of the coast, but the general store vibe and hospitality made up for it. I would definitely recommend this as stop in your travels in trying the different rolls of the region.

I had an amazing lobster roll today. There was just the right amount of mayo and butter on a grilled roll - absolutely delicious! You must stop by this family owned business. The owners are such wonderful people and their staff is amazing and so friendly. They make everyone that enters the store feel like family. You will love their baked goods too!

The best lobster I’ve had in years! The staff was so accommodating and appreciated how they have everything you need for a great stay on the beach. Richies slushies, ice coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and more!! If you’re in the area I highly recommend stopping by and meeting this lovely family business!

Great new owners! My family has been coming to Ocean Park/Camp Ellis for 4 generations and we are always keen to give the local establishments business. We must have had 10+ lobster rolls over a long weekend because we kept coming back for more. The quality and quantity of food for the price is the best in all of Camp Ellis. You can tell the chef/owner has a passion for food and isn't just slapping a few ingredients into a bun.

I read the previous reviews before coming (I rely on reviews when I travel), and feel like a few disgruntled folks must have had a bad experience. I cannot imagine the owners that I met providing anything less than a stellar customer service experience.

If you are in the area as a local or tourist, give the place a try! I know I will make a stop each time I return...

The new owners of this establishment have made this place feel like home away from home while we are on vacation. The breakfast sandwiches/burritos are so good, and they have fresh cinnamon buns & muffins made every morning that are so yummy, along with other sweet bakery treats! Also we loved the coffee bar in the back, they even had ice cups in the freezer and almond milk available with other options for your coffee as well as 3 different choices for flavors. The staff were welcoming and friendly and very accommodating and we will definitely be back not only this week while on vacation, but for...
