Calabash Market (in Coral Bay) is my favorite market on St. John. The owners, Mamoun and Mohammed, run an efficient business and extremely friendly. They treat everyone like a VIP! They sell a wide variety of food and beverages on an island where selection can be limited. Their meats and fish are fresh, and the produce is local.

I’m picky when it comes to Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food and I found the hummus (multiple flavors), baba ghanoush, tahini, and baklava at Calabash Market to be some of the best I’ve ever eaten! They make it fresh daily according to their family recipes (the owners are of Palestinian descent). We bought their premade kabobs twice to grill at our villa. They were delicious, seasoned perfectly and very tasty!

We were visiting St. John during Mother’s Day and had a reservation at one of St. John nicest restaurants. My wife and her best friend decided to cancel the reservation and chose instead to grill kabobs with hummus, baba ghanoush, pita, tahini, and baklava for dessert. I called Mamoun and ordered several kabob skewers with all these sides. The food was prepared and ready for us to pick up for Mother’s Day dinner. It was a fantastic and filling meal!

The owners of Calabash Market went out of their way to help us make our vacation memorable! Even though we were staying in Cruz Bay, we made it a point to drive to the other side of the island to shop there. It’s worth the trip (plus the views are nonstop gorgeous). If you are visiting St. John, I highly recommend shopping at Calabash Market for great selection and interesting...

This grocery/market has it all, including an impressive selection of steak, kebab, and locally-caught seafood. We also loved finding delicious deli treats like hummus and chocolate coconut balls. We ended up getting a lot of our groceries here, because we were staying on the Coral Bay side of the island, and every shopping trip was pleasant. It's small but impressively stocked, and prices are comparable to the larger stores across the island. For convenience (and not having to pay to fill up our gas tank with a cross-island trip), Calabash Market was perfect! All of our staples were there, and plenty of treats, too-- favorite chips, cereals, crackers, cookies, local beer, even a freezer stocked with 1/2 gallons of ice cream--everything was there. The family and staff who run the market are kind, attentive, and keep the store extremely clean and well-stocked. We needed some meds and conditioner at one point, and they had that, too! Even a ballpoint pen. ;) Thanks so much, Calabash Market! You were a sunny, delicious, and happy part of our stay...

Best meat for the 3 small pantry markets in Coral Bay St John USVI which is on east coast of the island. Wednesday's they get fresh sea food delivered from the Atlantic. Waho steaks we got were nice 1/2lb cuts @ $34lb but fresh sea food isn't cheap. Try the golden berries they sell, kinda like a cherry but when sauted & served with Waho was perfect. Fresh hummus & baba ganush they sell was protein we needed while snorkeling. Little bit of the essentials as it is maybe 300sq ft store so smaller selection. Asked for papers & was able to get my Caribbean smoke for the week. Very nice guy that runs the place in the evenings is the hook. Small path across the street can dip your toes in Johnson Bay, short walk to right takes you to small sandbar island on the point of the bay. Went to this market several times in 7 days as it was closest to where we stayed. People of the island like these people make the visit so nice because so many main landers are rude. GREAT...
