As a Florida resident who usually fishes the flats during the summer months, this was my first time fishing for any type of winter time fish and despite the wind and cold, the charter with Captain David totally surpassed anything I’d bargained for, especially for just stumbling upon him thanks to Google. First of all, the 24′ Robin was clean and ready to roll with fresh caught bait that morning. The was set up was nice with ample room to get around the boat, an efficient fishing finder, livewell and baitwell (I may have put a fish in the baitwell on accident 😵), an excellent audio system to get you hyped on your way out and haul back in, and custom made hooks for quick switching. He knew just where to put us for chances to catch Hogfish and Snapper. For keepers, we were able to bring in 5 beautiful Mangrove Snapper and 2 gorgeous Key West Grunts. The highlight of the trip for me was bringing in a juvenile Bonito and then watching my wife bring in an even larger monster! They sure burn the reel and are beautiful fish. I was also pretty proud of the Red Grouper I snagged for a photo op. We Inquired about a fishing trip with Steve at AMI Outfitters on Anna Maria Island, and He placed us with Capt. David Lee White , a dedicated fisherman, father, and all around great guy. Capt David was knowledgeable of the area, weather, tides, structure on bottom, and bait. There was no wasted time trying to find fish, or fighting the weather. He wasn’t just out there to make a quick buck off of some tourist, He wanted us to catch fish, and we caught fish. We weren’t out on the water but a few mins before David had us working a school of permit. From that moment on, it was nonstop action. We caught permit, kingfish, mangrove snapper, bonita, gag grouper, Goliath grouper, snook, and amberjack all on light tackle spin casters and fly rods. It was an amazing experience, one that we will always remember and certainly do again! Captain Dave met our family at a public dock and greeted us individually. He asked us what type of fishing we were looking to do. He gave us the option of “trophy fish” or “fish for eating”. We chose “fish for eating” (not knowing how much fish we would actually be able to catch). After getting situated on the boat, he took us about 55 minutes out to the Gulf. We stopped at one spot to look for some Yellow Tail Snapper. After 3 minutes of fishing, I caught the first catch of the day. After a few unsuccessful attempts, we moved to a new location and started “bottom fishing”. As soon as the first bait dropped, the fishing didn’t stop. I caught a 30lb Red Grouper, and others caught big American Red Snappers and more Red Groupers. After almost reaching the limit, we headed back where Captain Dave filleted the fish for us. We caught so much fish, we were able to invite our family of 30 over for dinner and had lunch for the next day! I highly recommend Captain Dave! We had several on board with no experience and they were able to learn and catch. He was a great captain, teacher, and made the experience extremely fun...
