Simply outstanding!
Christine and her remarkable team at Just the Right Gear take customer service to a whole new level. My wife, young daughter and I are bike touring across the US on the TransAm trail and our travels took us through the Salem/Roanake area as a slight diversion from the route. We had a few problems with my wife’s rear wheel and on a Saturday morning Cody and Camden spent an extensive time with me working on replacing broken spokes and straightening a bent rim. Once done, Christine then kindly dropped me back to my hotel, most unexpectedly.
On a second visit, Clayton spent a good amount of time painstakingly determining the right spokes to fit my wife’s wheels to ensure we didn’t suffer the same fate again. He then proceeded to show me the various best routes to continue our journey safely, with expert knowledge of all the roads.
My daughter was most entertained by Inky the resident cat - though I’m not sure the feelings were entirely reciprocated…. And last but not least when we left the store after three miles of biking and climbing we realized we’d left a drink bottle in the store and after a quick call Christine kindly offered to bring it to us to save a return trip. Simply amazing!
Perhaps unsurprisingly some other local cyclists we met in Blacksburg knew of Just the Right Gear and spoke very highly of the store and Christine. This store, its staff, culture, management and remarkable inventory and pricing - and let’s not forget the feline Inky - are all an asset to the cycling community in the Roanake/Salem/Blacksburg/Christianburg area. Many many many thanks to Christine, Cody, Camden,...
Read moreSales people were fantastic. Very kind and helpful. My wife and I were looking for a starter road bike for her to commute to work every once and awhile. I was trying a negotiation tactic or anything. I just told the sales person that our budget would be around $800. He was cool with that and showed us some models between $1200 and $1500 because they didn't have any road bikes for less. He told me he could do one of the bikes 25% off and get it to $1,150. Very nice of him! But he had to clear it with the owner. The jerk probably didn't think I could hear and said, "They only want to spend $800! What do they want, a tricycle?" in a very arrogant manner. The smile on my face riding that bike was almost enough for me to spring for the extra cash but I needed to get out of there before I went ballistic. There are too many people in the biking world that feel they're...
Read moreIf you are in the greater Roanoke area and in need or just want a new bike, service or gear check out this shop. Great service, very knowledgable about bikes and the area for riding spots, friendly and excited to see everyone coming into town for Nationals. We were so glad they were open on a Sunday before a big race because we needed a front axel for my son's bike. His got messed up on our travels to Virginia-- not sure how but it did. Apparently we weren't the only ones with this problem! So glad Christine was there to help us--she even sold parts off her bike to help (I'm know that is not a normal occurrence but we were glad she did). Without this shop he wouldn't have been able to race so the next time we are in town we will...
