Ok here it is. I have been shooting at Willow Slough for more than 30 years! The first time I was there it was nothing more than a berm as a back stop with no benches, years later nice benches with covers were added. Now another "so called" Improvement to the property. First let me say that when I first pulled into the driveway leading to the range I was impressed at what I saw, it was very clean and looked to be a nice facility. The first thing I was disappointed with was the sign on the door stating that you were not allowed to carry a firearm on the property? Can somebody explain to me why in the free state of Indiana where carrying a firearm has been a way of life for more than 30 years you are not allowed to carry your firearm while at this shooting range? This simply does not make any sense to me. Once inside we were explained the rules of the range, it didn't seem that they would be a problem. You are allowed 15 minutes of shooting with a 5 minute break to go set and check your targets and then another round of shooting for 15 minutes and the cycle continues. Initially that seems to be a good thing, however I did not care for it. I understand it's in the name of safety but it's not very relaxing when you have a guy over the loudspeaker ordering everyone to stop shooting. If you are a Precision shooter you know exactly what I'm talking about but if you're that guy that just wants to go there with a handgun for plinking I guess that would be okay. For me it was not an enjoyable or relaxing afternoon with my son. When talking to others on the Range they felt rushed as well. I personally will never return to that range and have found an alternative outdoor range that is run by the State of Indiana that is free to shoot at. Again, it is a very clean and modern facility however I am giving it one star simply because I felt rushed while on the lane and it just was not a very...
Read moreOf course I pick one of the hottest days of the year to pay a bust! But we had a nice breeze from the west so it wasn't to bad, the range office personal nice, helpful and professional and clear with the rules. Which go without saying. The pricing for ammo, magazines, targets and other accessories needed for a day at the range were the same or if not better than online pricing. Virtually all of us can admit we have gotten to the range and forgotten something but they will not break you on what you need for a safe day at the range. It was a bit of a drive but I will definitely be going back for the service the facilities and not to mention the bathrooms are some of the cleanest public bathrooms I've ever seen! Besides everything else that is one of the biggest things to me after...
Read moreI would highly recommend they update their hours of operation. We were told that "the government" controls all the websites and that it wasn't their problem that the hours on the website and Google were incorrect. So we drove almost an hour just to have to be told they were closed and had to turn right back. They were not at all sympathetic about it and just basically told us it wasn't their problem. Don't think we'll be trying to...
