Nov 13, 2024. Updating from previous reviewsâŚ.played CC yesterday with 9:20 tee time. First time to play since course refurbished. IMO, restoration of course was really well done. The post restoration bunkers are really beautiful with long grasses framing out the bunkers, providing a great aesthetic. However sand needs to compact further for ideal conditions. Greens are good in the sense of having healthy grass and good cover but are bumpy and very slow (perhaps a necessary trade off to have grass on heavily played greens) rolling at around a 8. If playing CC please pay close attention to any ball going into rough as type of grass results in ball sinking below âsurfaceâ making it really difficult to find the ball. Pace of play sluggish at 4:50âŚbut there was a friendly Marshall out and about trying to nudge along a slow group⌠Clubhouse was also refurbishedâŚno food availableâŚpro shop was sparingly stocked (eg no food, minimal selection of golf stuff). All in all a very good and challenging course, remodel was very well done.

Updating from previous reviews. Played today (April 20, 2023). Conditions have further deterioratedâŚinvasive grasses on greens, minimal grasses on fairways, lots of washouts, bunkers ok but need some TLC. Carts very long in the tooth. Pace of play ok (4:15). Going down to 3 stars based on overall conditions of the course (that, based on layout, could be really good). Staff friendly and polite.
Further to my review from last yearâŚ.played yesterday (April 14, 2022) as a threesome. 1:20 pm tee time. Waited on every shotâŚfor total round time of 4:40. Ouch. No starter, no Marshall. Fairways mostly rock hard and minimal grass. Looks like thereâs a sprinkler system ..but is it in use ? Greens struggling a bit with some invasive grasses. Shop staff friendly. On fence between 3 and 4 stars, so went with 4 to give benefit of doubt.
Played Cedar Creek yesterday...misty day so not too crowded. My wife and I caught up with a foursome around 6th hole but still finished round right at 4 hours (seeing other comments re pace of play). Overall conditions of course were good, although could see that Groundskeeper was fighting the battle on couple of greens (eg #11). Staff in shop were very nice and friendly (Matt) leading to my wife purchasing some clothing ! Tough and challenging course, best suited for more experienced golfers. Other than pace of play concerns (which we did not experience) highly recommend Cedar Creek. PS - very nice range and practice facility. ...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I used to play this course 8-10 times per year before their ârenovations.â lol I mean, yes, theyâve made changes, but letâs be honest, do they make a major impact to golfers? Theyâre subtle. I get it, itâs expensive. Great. Jack up our prices for painted dead greens and dead, mud caked fairways. Undulations are apparent and balls putt fine, but 80 FREAKING DOLLARS?!?! Whatever. I played Northern Hills last week and had MUCH more fun for $27.00. Cedar Creek also charged me for my 9yr old, a $19 cart fee. Give me a break. You guys think youâre Breckenridge Park or the Quarry?? No way. I also bought sandwiches on the course and whatever the grey meat in my âclub sandwich,â with its imitation fakinâ bacon was rotted. The cart girl let me know, âSorry, I donât know the policy for refunding your money. Youâll have to take it to the clubhouse.â Why am I going to hold on to a dead tasting sandwich for however many holes just to prove it to someone else, when sheâs already seen it and said, âYeah, that doesnât look good.â (?) Fairways are still too narrow with the exception of a handful. I used to love this course. In fact, honestly, it may have even been my favorite, but not anymore. Iâll take my golf game, my money and certainly my friends and family members elsewhere from now on. Unless itâs gonna be on the promo, Iâm good. *I did also call the clubhouse and they made me feel like I was asking for a something extraordinary when I told them about my sandwich. Itâs $6.75 or whatever. I mean, why would I raise a stink about such a small amount if it werenât true? I wasnât asking for a refund on a half eaten Ribeye for crying out loud. It was a crappy, rotted sandwich. Just be honorable, have some freakinâ customer service for those who just paid you $100.00 to play your crappy course and get...
Read moreThis has been one of my favorite muni courses in San Antonio. A fun layout with elevation changes and interesting and challenging greens. Todays round was anything but fun. The group in front of us was 3 guys in (soon unbuttoned) Hawaiian shirts. They screamed and shouted throughout the round, blasted music, played multiple balls, sometimes teed off simultaneously, rolled down hills, and (I'm not making this up) posed for selfies on greens after putting out. They essentially spent the entire day committing crimes against golf. Once the alcohol kicked in they got belligerent when asked to speed their pace of play. The group ahead of them had 3! small children hanging off the side of the cart. It took in excess of 5 hours to complete the round. No effort was made by staff to curtail any of this behavior, despite the fact that we called the clubhouse midround to complain. If Cedar Creek is going to charge a premium rate compared to other Alamo Golf trail courses, they had better put some of that revenue into course rangers to speed play and enforce golf etiquette. The course itself is just in ok shape compared to past years. Impossible to predict speed from green to green as some were much faster than others. Fairways were marginal considering all the rain we have had lately, they should be much more lush. Some years back management made a good decision to swap the order of the nines, but have now reversed them again, which was a mistake. The par 5 ninth is a much better finishing hole than the current 18th. Also, you no longer pass the clubhouse between the ninth and tenth, so you cannot get a drink or snack. Stay away until they improve the greens, and definitely until they get some personnel out on the course to improve...
