Every year, I Send in an order, for Sourdough Italian Heros. It's the same exact order, only thing changed is the year. They make the best Italian hero subs, and their service is always outstanding. This year, they pulled a stunt that not only guarantees I won't return, I told my union about it and they are no longer going to place orders with them either. Brought my son with me to the store to help me with the sandwiches and sides. When we got there and told then I was there to pick the large order up, got the strangest look, and the staffer said something to the other employee, who laughed, and then said something to the cashiers. It was obviously some inside joke, which I assumed was to do with being an hour late, and possibly bets if the customer was going to show up for the large order. Heck, I myself chuckled and asked, if bets were being taken if I was going to shoe after being late. I watched as they untagged each hero, and scanned each one separately. $16.99 per hero. I even ordered two per person, as they are that good and we have to give a days notice, so they can order the correct sourdough hero bread and enough of them. Got a funny look from the cashier, again dismissing it, on being late. Actually, can't call it late as I said I'd be there after 12, not be there at 12. Got home and it was my son who immediately pointed out, Lynardys ripped us off, as he opened his the moment we entered the door. They were not Sourdough heros. Hell, they were not even Sourdough bread at all. They were plain, dry sandwiches, wrapped in what looked like large French fry boats, to give each sandwich when wrapped, the appearance they were heros. Not one was an Italian sub. The quality of the cuts were terrible. When I say low quality, they looked like those 7-11 sandwiches that usually come shrinkwrapped in a plastic container, but rewrapped in their own packaging. No dressing, no Mayo, completely dry with Lettuce that looked to be days old. Each sandwich clearly showed they were supposed to be heros, and again, we were charged for them. This was no accident, and now we understood the strange behavior. Called the deli dept and moment I gave my name, they hung up, and never picked up again when I called back, there after. Been shopping there for years. Never ever had a problem with them. I could understand this happening if I was some self centered entitled Karen, but I'm not. Never had an argument, or problem with them ever. This just made no sense. I highly recommend if you ate having a large party, to use someone else for food that's more reliable. Unless you want to stand at the register, and have then open each and every item. Not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst time and last time shopper. I received a courteous greeting 'Can I help you' from a smiling face in the deli section while I was in stride to the butcher's counter. Upon arrival I was looking for lamb chops center or a rack. I told the young butcher my interest was lamb. He began to tell me that there were many cuts of lamb and quickly began spousing off the many cuts available until I had to tell him that I didn't need a tutorial in lamb cuts. I ultimately told him what I wanted and he accommodated me .. so I thought. Touted as a high end store .. I found the worst staffer I've ever encountered .. there. He was curt and brash with his curteous innuendoes coupled with his stage oriented presence. I started to walk away and I'm sorry I didn't because I got the short end of the stick and my visit was fruitless. I then halted my shopping plans .. purchased the one item and upon exiting I declared never to return. I will tell all my friends about this horrible experience.
High End .. is this what you call it ??? Look at the quality of the meat (no it's not cooked .. it's just old) and the quantity of fat that was attached .. WOW just think .. I paid for that !!! Never will I shop again at your store...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe've been shopping at Lunardi's for over 20 years. We believe it's the best Bay Area grocery store.
It's not "cheap"; this isn;t a discount store. But you get what you pay for - service, selection, speed.
The meat department has actual employees who know what they're doing. Do you want pocket pork chops? They'll cut a pocket. One prawn? No problem. Just turkey thighs? They'll cut the leg+thigh apart.
The produce is excellent. Try the jumbo peaches in August.
In a hurry? Some stores claim they'll open a new checkout lane if there are three people in line -- Lunardi's actually does it. I can walk into Lunardi's on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving just to buy a half gallon of milk and I know I'll get in and out quickly.
The checkers are competent, fast, and friendly. The selection is excellent. I would give this store 10...
