This review is long overdue.
Leadership Lacks Accountability and Professionalism
My experience as a fellowship member with Urban Tilth exposed serious internal issues that completely contradict the organization’s public image. What’s shown to the community and donors is inspiring — but behind the scenes, leadership operates with poor communication, immaturity, and a lack of accountability that damages both staff morale and program integrity.
The Rudy Lozito Fellowship ended early due to disorganized and unprofessional leadership. Concerns about unfair treatment and misconduct were reported through official channels and ignored. There was no follow-up, no transparency, and no effort to fully resolve the matter.
Urban Tilth’s mission on paper is pristine, but the internal leadership culture is toxic and dismissive. Those in power — including the enabled program manager and senior leadership, such as the CEO and the director of farms and gardens — failed to lead with integrity or respect. Donors and community partners deserve to know that this organization has serious internal management problems that undermine its credibility and the very values it claims to uphold.
Until Urban Tilth takes accountability, pays what’s owed due to inconvenience, and rebuilds trust with the people who make their work possible, I can not recommend engaging with or funding this organization.
There is no unity whatsoever at Urban Tilth. It's image-driven. Serving the community for appeal, but the intent isn't genuine, and there is a disconnection from the work.
The community is still being served, and the organization looks good for the part, so it shouldn't matter,...
