Randy Garcia and his team of SSO volunteers did an outstanding job hosting the Marines from Recruiting Station San Antonio. Our crew of 17 had an absolute blast Zip Lining at Adventures Out West, Colorado Springs.
For many of us, this was our first experience ever. We were given all the safety equipment needed and briefed on exactly what to do.
As we went through the course, we had an opportunity to build rapport and get to know the SSO representatives. We shared our active duty stories and talked about life after service.
Randy ensured we were all fed by bringing us Rudy’s BBQ. While we ate we had some powerful discussions. SSO volunteer Eddie Jackson did an outstanding sharing his experiences and putting things in perspective. Finding Your Identity was the big take-away. Randy also had some touching and inspirational words.
This is my third SSO event. They keep getting better and better. I’m excited for the next one.
Mr. Smit and the staff were amazing. They supported our large group of 26 in every way possible.
His communication and coordination made our Recruiting Station End of Year Review a success.

Read moreRick and his team at Soul Survivor Outdoor do a fantastic job mixing spirituality with fun, challenging outdoor events. SSO serves the active duty community by providing them a way to bond with events that most would not have an opportunity to experience. Rick took my team and me on a rock climbing expedition where we traversed through the Ouray Via Ferrata in The Box Canyon of beautiful Ouray, Colorado. Some of my Marines had on opportunity to face their fears as we climbed up a rock face while also having fun with their peers.
SSO is not apologetic in how it ties spirituality into its events, and it is refreshing. Even though I'm not of the Christian faith, I felt entirely welcomed by Rick and his team; they embrace all religions in their events. I could tie my faith to the event, knowing to trust my equipment just as much as I put trust in my G_D. When you are hanging and tethered from a rock face and can release and admire the beauty around you, there is no way you don't feel closer to the all-mighty. A big thank you to Rick and SSO for putting in such a fantastic event. Continue to fight the good fight and supporting the men and women who protect this great nation of ours....
Read moreAs a twenty-year active-duty Navy Corpsman, I’ve seen my fair share of organizations stepping up to support military members. But I’ve never experienced anything quite like this. This program was life-changing in every sense: mentally, physically, and spiritually. The way it combined adventure with Christ’s teachings was seamless, done with such love and authenticity that it never felt pushy or "Bible-thumping."
Going skydiving for the first time was a huge leap—literally! The way they planned and handled every detail made it all feel so smooth, from the logistics to the ease of access. The team had thought of everything, ensuring we were fed on all levels—spiritually, physically, and mentally. The impact on me was profound; it’s something I’ll carry with me forever.
This experience was so well done that I’m absolutely going to make it a priority to get my junior sailors involved. They deserve to experience something like this—a program that supports them as whole individuals. This organization needs to be around for many years, long after Rick has passed the torch. I can’t wait to see it grow and reach even more service...
