I gave birth in July 2021 and received postpartum support through the United Healthcare Grant for African American moms. I'm thankful to have gotten Deanna McClerkin as my Postpartum Doula. Each time she showed up, she literally and figuratively lightened up my life. As a new mom of 3, things have been difficult as far as adjusting to recovery, balancing raising children, working as a doula myself and grieving the loss of loved ones this year. Each time Deanna arrived she held space for me to talk, offered help by holding my baby and nurturing my other two children and even teaching them skills of sharing and cleaning up.
