I paid to play 9 holes with my son a couple weeks ago. My wife rode with us as did another of my sons who doesn’t play(charged $60). GM Tony was in the clubhouse when I checked in. I discussed an upcoming tournament with Bob who was working behind the desk. Never was I told that it was cart path only. We played all the way until #7 when GM Tony came driving up in a golf cart(in between tee boxes by the way). He throws his hands up and in front of my family says, “ I guess you all forgot about cart path only?” I replied that I was never told about it being cart path only. GM Tony says “well Bob said he told you” with a snarky condescending tone and look on his face. I reply that I was never told that by Bob and GM Tony rolls his eyes and drives off. Embarrassing confrontation in front of my family. Eventually we tee off on #8. I spray one to the right by the woods. I drive to my ball and GM Tony pops out of the woods in his golf cart(not on cart path). I ask him why he’s creeping around following us and he holds up a club and says he’s practicing. I say really in the woods ? We go back and forth and he tells me to leave. So I leave.
I’ve been playing Santee national since I was a boy when it opened. Since GM Tony started working the course things have changed. He is a pompous, arrogant, smart *ss and this is well known to the employees as well as many of the locals who I’ve spoken to. I’d love to play the course one again one day but only after GM Tony moves...
Read moreFollow up Oct 2023 (changed from 1 to 5 stars) ... well, it looks like management reacted to our review and we had a great fall outing and nobody threatened us to be banned. We are very glad to see the chaser might be gone and an enjoyable golf outing with the fellas is back to normal like we experience for many years. Great job Santee National!
Worst experience ever. So we are going down there for over 30 years but the experience we had the last time was just ridiculers. The new ranger at this course seems like a former police officer as he will hunt you down just to make a point. One of our golfers has a medical condition and cannot be exposed to the sun. Yes, the long sleeve shirt he worn didn’t have a collar but after explaining to the ranger why, he demanded to wear a collard shirt over his sun protection. (90 degree) … and yes, we drove our cart to the shade on #10 and didn’t park it on the driveway … so far common practice over the years - no harm, no foul. However, the new sheriff in town had a huge issue with that. “I see this again and you will be banned for live time was his comment” Well, Mr ranger - we are over 30 golfers enjoying Santee over the years but with recent experience, we need to consider other locations. May you have a blessed day and hopefully your battery keeps up with you chasing down...
Read morePlayed this course twice and I must say that it is a great course any time of the year.
The greens are excellent and kept up well and I like the way the pin locations change to keep you on your toes.
The tee boxes are perfect in what ever tee you play from.
The fairways however don't match the greens or tee boxes. Though in good condition one can tell they are lower on the priority list when compared to the greens and tee boxes.
The pace of play is great, 10 minuets between groups means you aren't breathing down someone's neck and no one is rushing you. I don't think my wife and I saw another group for 18 holes.
Driving range and putting area for warm-ups is good. Just wish they had a approach area for practice. But overall a nice area to warm up the clubs.
The pro shop has everything one might need playing golf and at reasonable prices. The café is ran by great people who cook great food when you need to get out of the elements when making the turn onto the back 9.
Overall, Santee National Golf Club is a great course to play 18 holes. My wife and I will be back...
