My son transferred to SSU mid-Spring 2025. There was a delay in processing his application because my son did not submit all of his documents timely prior to Thanksgiving Break 2024 (e.g., transcripts from his dual enrollment college, images of front and back license for verification of lawful presence, did not periodically check admission status and follow-up). After his emails to his counselor went unanswered for a week or so, he learned he was assigned a new counselor/advisor. After he made several calls to SSU admissions, one lady went out of her way to view his email transmissions, collect his last document (while on the call), and gave him his new counslor's name, email, and phone number. The "admit lady" told him to expect a call from the counselor within 48 hours; if not, call her (admit lady) back in Admissions. For my son, lesson learned. He stayed home during the Spring, took classes online during the last minimester (earned two A's), and is taking classes now in Summer school (I expect another set of A's). He is back on track academically and will move on campus in the Fall. He looks forward to the SSU experience and earning his bachelor's and master's degrees. A special thanks to SSU Admissions...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis school has the potential to be an amazing university, but like most colleges (especially HBCUās) they do not handle business properly. Never have I ever heard of students being required to pay for both semesters in order to move in, no response from any staff or department unless you go see them in person(especially admissions, housing, and financial aid), there is an ongoing issue with mailingā¦students donāt have an address and whoever works in the mail room does not want help with getting things cleared up. Iāve heard that plenty staff members are rude and treat students poorly. Covid outbreaks are not even being mentioned at the moment. There are great academic opportunities here, but itās a very difficult experience and may leave you in debt or in a position where you have to leave...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could give this place negative stars, I would. This is a TERRIBLE SCHOOL. The financial aid office is a complete joke, and it is made pretty clear they don't care about you. They don't care if you can pay for school, or if your aid is DELAYED the week before school starts!! They WONT return your phone calls. If you want anything done, you have to go there yourself and demand to have things fixed. The administration as a whole is the most incompetent group of people I've ever seen in my life. Registrar, fin aid, all of it...
