Kelly's Gardens & Landscape Services — Local services in Saybrook

I've used Kelly's Garden more than once so this review is not based solely on one experience. I am inclined to rate this business on the side of Angie's list. Do not expect any follow up or return phone calls on any issues you may have with their service. I have attempted (as well as my brother) multiple times to connect with them but I never receive a call back. I've never been thrilled with the quality of work but to be honest they were close and convenient and the work was done on a second home that I do not frequent. Timing is not an issue to them anymore than their customer service so don't set your clock by them. This is my most previous experience with Kelly's Gardens and undoubtedly my last. I had beds cut, weeds sprayed and mulch spread this past July in hopes to get the house on the market and sold. Upon inspecting the work done I noticed slag stone all in my mulch beds. We are not talking a couple here and there, but the stone is all throughout the mulch. White stones in brown mulch almost as if the mulch was scraped from the very bottom ,and the base layer of the earth was taken right along with it. To my disbelief, they spread this, all 6 yards and now I will need to remove and dispose of every yard in order to rectify the problem they created. It's no wonder they never called me back. What's worse is their negligence. They were well aware that my intentions were to get the house on point to sell and this is what my 800.00 bought me. Needless to say the house never sold. This firm was contracted with to deep edge, clean-up, and mulch all my flower beds during the early Spring 2023. His crew showed up when agreed to and worked all day. I was incapacitated at the time do to knee replacement surgery and reason why I couldn't do the work myself. At the end of the day the crew leader came to my door with an invoice for over $2000, which was the agreed to quoted price when Bob Mramor came to my house to scope out the work. I was unable to get outside to check on the work and just paid the invoice since the crew leader said they were done. Several weeks later I was able to get out on crutches and found that though the flower beds were all edged and cleaned, they were not deep edged. Further, only 2/3's of the flower beds had been mulched. I emailed Bob about the issue, then my wife went to his business. Since he was never available my wife spoke to his wife the first time, then one of his employee's the second time. Bob finally sent out his team leader to inspect his work and take pictures. Bob who is charge of landscaping is horrible. He assured me over the phone that our flower beds would be sprayed, cleaned out, underlayment put down and mulched. The pictures attached say everything you need to know about the quality. This was done a month ago and it has to be done over again. My wife called Bob and he immediately went on the defensive, blaming us and making excuses. I told him many times what we wanted done and even if it cost more, to make sure it was done right. There is no excuse. Shoddy work from a shady salesman. He's never available when you call and somehow doesn't have a cell phone. Now I understand why.
