Fish Barn — Local services in Scott Township

I have been to most of the freshwater aquarium shops around the Iowa-Illinois area and this is the best. I have never seen a sick fish at Fish Barn. They have prices that are lower than even Petco with the quality of a dedicated fish store. I cannot emphasize enough how good the prices are. I have bought great looking healthy long-finned cherry barbs here for 1.50$ when most stores charge 5-6$. I have seen large great looking fancy goldfish and medium sized koi being sold for less than half of what the average store would ask. You get a 48 hour guaruntee which they honor generously. The husband and wife owners are honorable friendly people who are great to do business with.

They always have a good selection on hand which includes the staples of the hobby and some neat niche species. If they don't have what you want on hand they can almost certainly order it for you and get it it for a price that is competitive with online wholesalers (and much better than any other brick and mortar...

The best aquatic store in the Iowa City area hands down.

I’ve been keeping aquariums for close to ten years now and am blown away by the quality of their stock. Although neon tetras are easy to find, good genetics are not. I have had 0 problems with NTD from The Fish Barn. I purchased Beckford’s Pencilfish and a variety of corydoras from them a little over a year ago and they have done brilliantly in my tank. Although I do not keep shrimp, my colleague has been extremely pleased with his RCS purchased here.

The owners are wonderful, and if you are lucky, you’ll be greeted by some extremely cute French bulldogs.

Set just outside of Iowa City, not too far a drive. Might have taken me just as long to get to Coralville, and the drive is more scenic. A beautiful pastoral setting, with cute family dogs and horses nearby. A barn filled with a great number of well-kept tanks, with a wide variety of tropical fish. Holy cow! How did I not know about this place? Am I in heaven? No, it's Iowa. Awesome find. Glad they are around, and I hope they remain for years to come. Check it out. You will not be disappointed.
