Durham Upholstery — Local services in SeaTac

Early in February I stopped by Durham Upholstery to inquire about reworking damaged seats in a 1949 mercury. There is long term family history tied to this car, and with my 88 year old father recently losing his partner/wife since 1950, my hope was offset some of his grief with the car as a summer distraction. On my first visit to Durham's I brought in a sample of the seat vinyl... and the initial conversations with the counter-person and one of the upholsterers were supportive and positive... and so I removed the seats from the car the next day, and dropped them off the following day. The same counter person accepted/wrote up the seats... and I briefly spoke with the same upholsterer. What transpired over the next 4+ months (multi in-person visits and phone calls) was nothing short of a complete waste of my time and poor customer service. On three different follow-on conversations with that same counter person there was a plan forward... but every time I followed up later it was if that person either wasn't listening or perhaps just didn't care. Today I again stopped by Durhams... and this time was told they lost one of their upholsters... so couldn't support my project anyway. So today I picked up my seats (after collecting dust on a shelf at Durham's since early February) and struggle to understand why they even took in the seats to begin with. They may have good upholsterers (I'll never know), but their business office and customer communication soils...

used this place for my toyota seats a while back, they looked fairly nice when done but by no means perfect, at the time i got a quote for the seats and paid the price thinking that was the going rate for the work, later found out I could get it done for half the price. recently decided to get my motorcycle seat recovered and thought I would try and get a quote again since the shop is close to my house it was convenient to stop by; got the quote for the seat but this time decided to shop around, found out that I could get the seat done for 88% cheaper than what Durham quoted me. I would of not written a bad review if the quote was 50% higher than other shops but 88% higher is rediculous. basically I would shop around before you decide on this place, as quality of the work doesn't reflect 88% price increases from...

From the initial phone call to check pricing to picking up my car my experience with Durham Upholstery was great. The price to have the top replaced was competitive. Most important was the level of service. The original convertible top that was ordered came in damaged. They called me right away and let me know what had happened. They had the top manufacturer ship another top overnight. The replacement of the top was excellent. When I came the pickup the car the technician who worked on my car brought the car out and spent time to explain the repairs he did to the top frame and answered all my questions.
