Thank you in order of talk Firstly, Benji Security described the area. — Then, Left Voice message for Kendra. — Lastly, Magdalena Florez, who called me back and I’m sorry my phone was on silent. I was first clearly and thoroughly explained the different trades offered. Cooking, Carpentry, and Welding are all I can remember. After some discussion I was second explained Qualifications, 16 years of age to 24 years of age, And/or people with disabilities (all I have is high functioning autism.) Sedro Woolley is one of the safest places in Washington it’s on the top ten list for 2025. I will strongly consider Jobcorps in a year from now once I’ve completed my “apartment sabbatical sobriety for 3 years because my boss died by falling off a cliff.” (Though drugs aren’t accepted at Jobcorps, I didn’t ask about prescribed medications.). So grateful for Cascades Job Corps and helping our son achieve his certificates in IT. Not only did they help him with his career path, they helped him to be responsible, respectful and resourceful. My son is now living on his own and can take care of himself. He is currently trying to get into the Military in which we feel Job Corps was a great start. I also want to give a shout out to his career counselor Kelsey Hardaway. Living out of state while my son was at Job Corps was not easy for this mom. Being able to communicate with Kelsey and hear how well my son was doing always put me at ease. Thank you to everyone at Cascades Job Corps. You made a huge difference in our son’s life!

It is completely awful that Job Corps was shut down. Students aged 16 -24 were given 7 days to get out with no prior notice. Many of them have nowhere else to go. They had to move to homeless shelters. This cruel, senseless decision is devastating to many young people who were trying to drag themselves up by the boot straps. Hope replaced with shattered dreams and homelessness. Horrific. UPDATE - the students are back but many are waiting for the other shoe to drop. It would be hard to commit to a place once you've been tossed out. I wish the best for everyone. The students are trying so hard to make a decent life for themselves. I hope it doesn't close again.

There's a lot I can say about this place. The conditions were terrible. "Sleeping well" is a concept you should leave behind. If it's not the staff member that barges into your room and blasts a light in your face multiple times a night, it's the absolute brick of a bed you get. Or the freezing cold from the poor heating system that I'm not convinced works right. Or the creepy guy you got assigned a room with. The showers are unsanitary. I'd see mold in the walls, curtains, and floor. We students shouldn't have to be cleaning the showers and bathrooms. It's hazardous and should be cleaned regularly by professionals. This isn't the military. It shouldn't be run like one. Recruitment casts a wide net, resulting in a wide variety of different students. I appreciate the variety despite the more unpleasant types coming in. There's a bizarrely high student number that the admins desired. This resulted in poor resource distribution, overcrowding, and unpleasantly cramped living conditions. Some staff members, whether unintentionally or not, treat the students in demeaning and degrading way. Many students claimed to feel as if they were being treated like a child. There are staff members who are respectful and delightful to interact with. A certain drivers Ed instructor, an SPS instructor, a Saint or two in the kitchen, and one particularly fashionable RA are a few that come to mind. The road and walkways are in dire need of maintenance and results in occasional trips and injuries. My class seemed underfunded and poorly equipped. For a physical class, it lacked a lot of important things. Like a safe sparring area, functional training dummies, and more uniforms.

Leaving. This is a big one. Once you get here, you are heavily restricted with when you are allowed to leave the campus. You are given 3 days of PTO and you get one additional day per month. You are allowed to leave on the weekends, provided you submit a weekend pass by late Tuesday night. There is a pass you can attempt to get to leave the campus after classes on weekdays bit I recall the process being extremely redundant and a deliberate waste of time. Pay is insufficient. I know the program is free but we can't do much with $64 every two weeks.

So yeah. That's my review of Cascades job corps. The small pay and heavy restrictions on leaving campus reminded me of those old company towns. Also there's a lot of former students popping up in homeless shelters, I've noticed.

[This review is descriptive of the state I distinctly remember it as. Any changes made to the facility are unknown to me as of...

Crazy they shutting this one down. I came here back in 2010-2011. Being an adult now you learn to take responsibility for your actions. I got kicked out cuz I didn't want to take a drug test coming back from break one weekend with this girl. Yes, I was smoking weed off campus everybody was doing something tho & I mean everybody but they made you feel pressured the entire time I was there to not get caught doing stuff & they accuse you of random stuff after you go to Harvey Hacienda don't tell him you like recreational drugs or they'll be on you with random drug test. I did have a situation where my mom sent me a package with money in it & when I went to get change from the register lady she tried to steal a $20 from me out the hundreds my mom sent... They were on my azz other than that I went to class & did everything I was supposed to stayed out of trouble etc Back then there were girls doing cemet masonry graduation into $19hr jobs. I was in painting I enjoy my time there & wish I could have graduated but I still went to college & finished my degree all good. I enjoyed Sedro Wooley also going to Anacortes the islands farmland & nature it's a good place to focus & make something of your for young people I will say that... If I ever went back to Washington I would make sure to visit Skagit Valley...
