I wish they would make the driving pit for the demo derby so it's in the middle of the stands, not clear to the east. The customers that pay to get in and have to stand clear down on the west end of the stands can hardly see. I've never understood this. Just because half the stands are covered, doesn't mean the event should only be placed in front of those sections.
Every year, the lines and wait times at the food stands get longer and longer. It would be nice to see more stands by the grandstand with "fair food". There were hundreds of people at the derby and you have to go out to the fair for food and drinks, and there are only really two there...and they were really slow. We gave up because we were missing so much of the derby. 30-45 minutes for just a lemonade is excessive. Maybe the fair could open a stand for simple food and drinks inside the grandstand? They sure promoted the beer tent...make sure you get your beers. But that doesn't apply to everyone.
It's also a little wild that you have to pay to get into the fair, and then also pay to get into the grandstand events like the derby. This is a county fair it shouldn't cost my family $50-$60 to go to a derby. We didn't go for anything...
Read moreI pulled off the highway because of strong winds and parked in their full hookup RV campground for a couple nights. Since I didn't plug in they didn't charge me anything. I did not use the restrooms because it was off season and the water had been shut off. The hydrant water did work but it was rusty colored probably from not being used all winter. I think the electric was on but I did not plug in. There's an office up front where you can get an envelope and pay the rate I think is $30 per night and it's a self-serve type affair. You can easily dump RVs here. You could also fill your water there but be careful because it is high pressure and my experience was that it was rusty at first then it...
Read moreThis is one of the cutest county fairgrounds I have been to. There are barns for various animals, plenty of buildings for booths and exhibitors, and of course the grandstands. But my favorite part is Old Town. What a treasure! There are historic buildings making a little "town" kids can explore during the fair and other special events, and it's such a fun immersive way to make history come to life. Plus they have plenty of fun like the pedal farm area and the train to climb on! Also the Woodbury County Fair consistently has the best pork tenderloins...
