I did NR Paintball for my birthday. Overall I was turned on to paintball and really enjoyed playing. Unlike a lot of the reviews here, I felt the staff wasn't on top of it. We ended up paying $350 for 5 people and 4000 paintballs for 2 hours. This was a shock because it was $100 moe than we were expecting. Since we ended up paying the party price, our ref was supposed to be ours for the two hours we booked. Short staffed, I our ref kept going to help people at the consession stand and new players arriving. It kept cutting into our limited play time. Once we actually got going, our ref spent more time talking about his paintball team, his gun, his strategies on fields we didn't play, and call of duty. In the end, we all felt incredibly bummed that most of our time was spent listening to our ref. It wouldn't have been a huge deal if we actually got to use all of the paintballs we purchased, especially since we ended up over paying. We still had a good 200 paintballs left. We were forced to shoot what we had in our hoppers at a wall. Then NR Paintball kept the rest of the paintballs we paid for. We would have absolutely had time to play 2 more matches needed to get rid of them had our ref not spent so much time ranting about himself. There was also a period where he was showing us his gun that shot 10 balls a second, but using our paint. I can't imagine how much of our paint he wasted doing this. Then he pushed something onto us called "the gauntlet" where one person runs and everyone shoots them. Then everyone runs and one person shoots everyone. After I "pussed out" (his words) and didn't want to run initially, I was forced to run with the group as my friend shot all of us with or refs high powered gun. Quite honestly it was a huge waste of time and paint. I can't imagine why someone would recommend this kind of thing to a party of people who have never played paintball before. We wanted to spend our time and paint playing each other in games, not wasting it. In the end, we all had a blast playing paintball, but felt the ref focused too much on himself. It wasn't fair that we were rushed off the field at he end of our two hours when more of our time was spent listening to our ref rant about things we didn't care about. Overall paintball was great and I'd definitely play again, however I don't think I'll be going back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a field that I've been waiting for in the DMV area. While there were only 4 fields in the recball walk-on rotation, playing here makes paintball feel more like a sport than a game in a very good way. Because the fields (airball, hyperball, "spool"ball, and 1 small urban map called "Colony") are appropriately sized for 3v3 to 8v8 games, it's much easier to adjust your play and methodically move from bunker to bunker without having in-depth course knowledge accumulated from multiple visits. It's possible to have full course vision and understand exactly where you should be looking to help your team, and this provides a lot of confidence in choosing when and where you should move.
The paint was alright. Recball uses 3-star HK Army Premiere, which was visibly dimpled on a significant number of balls, but wasn't horribly inaccurate. Those who want to play pump may be frustrated by the quality however. The brittleness was definitely good though. The paint definitely felt like 3-star when you get hit (i.e. it hurt less), and I felt that I had fewer bounces than G.I. Sportz 1-star or Valken Infinity, but that also may be because of the closer distances between players due to the smaller fields.
In terms of facilities, there is one large deadzone that is shared between all of the airball and recball fields, so walking and packing gear between deadzones is minimal. The parking lot is also nearby the deadzone, so leaving your backup marker and/or a case of water inside is viable. There are multiple portajohns and multiple outdoor sinks. I was disappointed that there were no water jugs for refilling water bottles, but they do sell cold water bottles and soda for $2-$3 per bottle.
While I don't think it'll be my one-stop shop as a paintball field, I think it very much deserves a spot in the locations that I will find myself coming back to in the future. It's a very good place to improve your more technical skills as a player because of the lower reliance on course knowledge, and you're also able to observe league-players play if you want to see how they position, move, and shoot. Definitely give this field a visit if you're interested in smaller courses to develop the above mentioned...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHey guys, this was my experience at NR paintball. I am an avid paintball player. I enjoy going to play every Sunday. This Sunday I decided to try out NR paintball. When I first get to the field, I see a bunch of air ball courses and I get excited because me being an hour away I normally do not get to play on those types of fields. Shortly after I parked my car, I walk up to the front window and I say āhey Iāve never been here before. Is there anything I should know about?ā the lady behind the counter replies, ā no if you are a walk on, you can pair up with other walk onās over near the benchesā (lady was very nice) I reply OK thank you after Iām done setting my gun up me and a few walk onās proceed to run drills. Iām having a good experience everyone is and helpful & kind. I even got a few peoples numbers to play with. My bad experience came when the pros left the Air ballfield and the walk ons got to play.I played 2 games & At this point itās about 3 oāclock, so I had been playing all day. Weāre coming up on our last game and two refs come out they asked us to show us our hoppers so we showed them, one of the refs saw that I was using paint from another field he then proceeded to scream at me and tell me either dump my hopper filled with paint or leave. I replied to the ref by the name of Josh & said āi didnāt know sorry dude this is my first time hereā he replied āidc you knew you werenāt supposed to bring paint from other fields hereā again i want to remind you I conversed with the lady at the front desk who gave me the clear after asking āis there anything i should knowā i say all that to say this as a first experience this was 1/10 i have no problem following the rules it was an honest mistake . ref Josh has no respect for people & should work on his conversation skills & his approach. Not everyone is maliciously out to break the rules. Josh walked up and made me feel like i was unwanted there idk how long heās been working there but heās bad for business especially if itās your first time there. I hope this message gets to the right people.
Sincerely...
