Shasta College completely changed my life. I was able to figure out a career path and get an associateās degree for transfer. They have sooo many resources- their library has subscriptions to a ton of academic journals, as well as computers and printers to use, and lots of great study spots. Their student clinic is amazing, and itās included with the cost of classes. There is also therapy/counseling if you need someone to talk to. The professors really care about their students and want them to do well. There are lots of cool events and clubs. Their disability resources department is super helpful, and I know they have a financial aid/EOPS program, and construction is underway for a new building entirely for assisting veterans. They have smaller campuses in more rural areas like Red Bluff, Weaverville, and Burney, as well as a ton of online courses. I think Shasta college is easily one of the most positive influences present in the Redding...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAdvisers are often unhelpful and more importantly hard to get a hold of. They often cancel classes when they don't have enough students. This can set a person back for more than 1 semester, which is terrible. An adviser plans out your classes and expects you to be there for 1-2 semesters, then the school (only caring about money?) cancels your pre-req to 3 other classes. The often will wait to tell you that the VA doesn't accept a class putting you book payment and monthly payments behind. They are quick to ticket you if you park with out a pass. I'd understand it if they didn't have whole open parking. If you don't pay or don't know they will make sure the DMV knows and this will result in withholding your registration if you don't have enough to pay the exorbitant CA prices + a $60 fee. So a school will go beyond education to get monies from you. Next they will check credit scores, lol.
They are only good as a very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat school, great teachers. I was a miscreant as a teenager and very much opposed the institution of education, but Shasta, their staff, and their teachers, have helped me fall in love with being a student over the two years I've been attending and completing prerequisites for the dental hygiene program. I wish I could get paid to be a student forever. Keep it up Shasta! Also the library is coming along beautifully and I love all the new landscaping upgrades that have recently been implemented. The on-campus Starbucks and the online ordering for said Starbucks, as well as online ordering of yummy cafeteria food is a huge bonus, too. The leaening resources and attitudes of all, make Shasta extremely conducive to learning. I believe this place runs like a well-oiled machine, and is a beautiful and stimulating...
