I visited the Lower Falls, which was worth the trip out here! Taking the Lower Falls Trail, a round trip was approximately 2 miles with 400' elevation gain. It was easygoing for seasoned hikers, yet manageable if you don't consider yourself a seasoned hiker. Trails are easy to follow and well-maintained.

The parking lot (pull-over spot) is small, enough for perhaps 5-10 cars.

If you want to see the multiple waterfalls along this trail, you could take a spur trail that leads you back to Race Brook Trail (instead of backtracking). All Trails does not show the trail connecting, but blazers at the Lower Falls lead you uphill to connect to the main trail.

The next time I visit here, I will certainly allow more time to see the rest of the falls; I spent too long admiring the...

Great hike! This is one of those hikes you will most likely end up with wet feet on! Start at the kiosk and go down to the left. You will come to a fork: go left for the upper and right for the lower. Both beautiful and worth the hike! I went after a good rain so the views were awesome...but the trail was beyond muddy. You can alsp continue past the upper falls (I did not) and this trail will eventually run into the Racebrook campsite that intersects with the AT! Oh yeah! Trail blaze is blue here...so if you get lost, keep an eye out!

P.S. this trail connects to the Undermountain Trail as well..if you follow it the wrong way instead of crossing back over the river...you'll end up about a mile further up the road and have to hike South...

I loved this hike. We went to the lower falls at the first junction then followed the race brook falls trail to the upper falls and then took the AT up to Race mountain. I thought this trail was beautiful along the river and was very impressed with all the different parts of the falls. In all I think there were 3 river crossings. It ending up being about 7 miles total when we got back to the car but if you just do the lower and upper falls trail it’ll be about 5.75 miles total. (The lower falls trail adds 1 mile to your round trip but it felt worth it) It was pretty steep until the top of the falls especially if your not used to hiking (about 1 - 1.5 miles) but then easy after that. It wasn’t busy when we went...
