My friend and I went to the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds to attend the Model Railroad show and swap meet. The only part of the fair ground we were in was the indoor exhibition area attached to the horse riding arena. The show was excellent and included several modular layouts in On3, HO and N Scale. They were all great, but the On3 was spectacular. The swap meet side was very good and had a decent vendor turn out, along with reps for Great Northern and Norther Pacific Historical Societies, as were reps for the Simpson Railroad Preservation Organization. I don't think that's what they call themselves, but that's what they do, work on preserving the Simpson Logging Railroad. They're a great bunch of folks dedicated to preserving the last bit of Logging Railroad history in the country. It was a great show, and the vendors all helped me spend my $200.00 budget and walk out the door with $300.00 worth of stuff! And a new membership in the Great Northern Historical Society! I think the organizers name is Tim, so if you read this Tim, keep up the...
Read moreThe Elma VFW Post 1948 provides drivers for the "People Mover" during the annual fair. The People Mover is specifically for those who need a lift to explore the extensive grounds that are the Grays Harbor Fair Grounds.
The route goes from the west main entrance, through the "vendor's court", past the carnival entrance, through the food court, out past the Pavillion and around the restrooms near the equestrian barns, and returns past the livestock barns, back to the west entrance. Trips take about 20 minutes.
Although it seems more like a "Kid Hauler" most of the time, just ask them to make room or get off for those with legitimate needs. (They can walk faster than we travel anyway!)
This year the VFW drove 28 hrs during the 4 day fair.
Thank you Jim Meers of Post 1948 for all your time and organization.

Read moreI thought the fair as a whole was pretty decent for a small county fair. Farm animals and car races made it cool. I'd give it 4 stars for small town fair and 1 star for food experience, hence the 2 stars - food is life sorry. Was so disappointed with me food experience. The elephant ear funnel cake stand was the absolute worst! 35 minutes waiting in line for elephant ears, then another 20 minutes waiting for it to get cooked only to find out they have no butter. That wasn't the only thing they were out of and there were no sold out signs! So many disappointed and irritated people. That was my last experience at the fair and makes me feel that alone is a reason to think twice about...
