Let me explain. Normally I love this business. I know the owner and not ONLY are his meats to die for, but pretty much everything they sell there is well worth the trip from where ever you come from! HOWEVER, their employees (specifically 2 girls) who work out front at the counter are not only RUDE as hell, but they do not understand the concept of taking and/or waiting your turn in the world. Which can only leave me to believe they were never taught these manners as a child! They deliberately wait on whomever they want WHEN they want. SCREW the courtesy phrases of "WHO'S NEXT?" or "CAN I HELP WHO'S NEXT?" Cause I NEVER heard either one them ask that question even ONCE! When I FIRST walked in, there was NO other customer in the store except for a gentleman sitting at the table waiting on a HUGE order of ribs and chickens. I was the ONLY other person there & HE had apparently already been taken care of & was just waiting. So I'm waiting, while one girl was roaming around the floor, not stocking anything, just roaming. And "MISS SUNSHINE" was doodling on something behind the counter, but they BOTH saw me come in! So I wait. Then I saw a sign advertising Ham on sale, so I take 3 steps over to the cooler to pick one, but in the meantime 2 more people had walked in. They go directly to the deli counter in front of the girl doodling & the other girl had since walked into the back room without helping me. So when Miss SUNSHINE stops doodling & finally looks up, she immediately asks the lady standing in front of her if she could help her? Now, I'm not happy, but I say nothing & just walked down by the cheeses cause that is what I ACTUALLY came in for! THEN, the ROAMING girl comes back out and asked the OTHER gentleman that was NOW standing there, if SHE could HELP HIM! NEITHER ONE OF THEM ASKED "Who was next!" And then it happened again! A THIRD person was waited on without asking who was next and now about 10-15 minutes has passed! Needless to say, by now, I am extremely annoyed and 3 more customers have now entered the shop! So, I walked down & stood in front of them and I apologized to them, but I was going to be waited on next because THEY have waited on 3 other people BEFORE me! The girls of course heard me & they started doing the "drag my feet, don't look up, try to ignore this crazy lady" dance! FINALLY, the roamer gave in, & came down to wait on me, but as she does, little MISS SUNSHINE walks right past me to go to the cash register to check out all the people she had waited on! I say to her, maybe you guys need to get a "Take-a-Number" wheel & SHE says (and quite nasty I might add)...WE DO, IT'S BY THE DOOR! My response was, "That's funny, cause I didn't HEAR you call ANY numbers out! And she then says, (are you ready for this?) SHE says, well normally we aren't this busy! đ€Łđ€Ș So I then reply, I WAS THE ONLY FRIGGIN PERSON IN THIS STORE WHEN I GOT HERE! She just shrugs her shoulders and walks away! SO, my request to you KEITH & DEBBIE PALUMBO is to PLEASE, PLEASE insist that ALL your employees learn to say TWO SIMPLE WORDS before helping ANYONE in your shop. And those are, "WHO'S NEXT?" I promise you, that your CUSTOMERS will show more courtesy & respect for one another by letting your workers know exactly "WHO'S NEXT", so Miss Sunshine or anyone else does NOT have to worry about knowing who's next all by herself! If she would just say those 2 friggin words, the customers will be more than happy to take & wait their place in line, then EVERYONE would be much happier. You just might sell more products. I know that I left behind a nice ham and some pork chops because of it, and if I didn't live a mile up the road from you, and you weren't the only place that I could find my favorite cheese close by, I would have left the cheese too. I'm sorry, but when it began to look like they were going to lock the doors before waiting on me, I got upset! Please talk to them. Just ask them, I'm certain they will remember the...
Read moreEDITING AFTER READING SOME OTHER REVIEWS AND THE OWNER RESPONSE TO THEM - They say that âGoogle Reviews are foreverâ and to call them to address the issue instead. To be clear - we did that, and they were incredibly snarky and rude. We tried to give them that consideration, and it was wasted on their part.
REVIEW:
Interesting experience here. Past experiences should have probably been indicative (being laughed at for not knowing about a certain type of cheese) but we continued to come here for literally decades. Not anymore unfortunately.
We went in to order a prime rib. Wanted a 6 lbs. prime rib roast. I had called several days ahead of time to reserve one and were told that we wouldnât need to reserve it as they always have it. Fine.
So I go in and ask to order a 6 lbs prime rib. They asked if I wanted it boneless or bone-in. I said boneless. The staff member then began to pull out several Delmonico steaks, which I was told was the same cut of meat. I asked if they had any whole ones that werenât cut up, and she went back and pulled out an 18 lbs. one and said I could buy that one. That was way too much, so I said no and asked if they had any smaller ones. And the other option for âsmallerâ was the steaks. So we took them and purchased them.
Later in the day, we were wondering about it. So we called in there and asked if that was true that the only way to get a smaller prime rib was just to get several Delmonico steaks. Someone, a younger guy from the sound of his voice - mustâve been one of the owners because his last name was Palumbo (heâs not the one who helped me in the store) - answered the phone. He told us that we absolutely could have gotten a smaller roast and that they do it all the time.
However, in the process of explaining what had happened after asking this, he kept being rude, sarcastic, and interrupting us. He eventually said (while on the phone) that he asked everyone there about it and they claimed to basically know nothing, and he shouted across the store supposedly âFIRINGâ the employee who made the mistake without getting all of the pertinent details.
They told us we could come in and get the correct cut of meat, but due to prior obligations I did not have any time to drive back there and we needed the meat for the next day. We didnât even want a refund. Just move on. Right before they closed at the end of the day, they called again asking if we were coming in to get the new Prime Rib. We said âno,â and inquired about the employee they supposedly âfired.â Because during our initial phone call, the guy on the phone said they had fired her on the spot and she was walking out the door as we spoke. However, in the voicemail we got (we didnât hear the phone ring initially) when they called right before they closed, they said they had spoken to her and got down to the bottom of the issue and wanted to make it right with us.
So did they fire her or not? Because how was she walking out the door during our first phone call and then was still available to help rectify the situation later on? Either way, we were lied to. If they did, thatâs horrendous business practices to treat your employees like that and no one should EVER work for them if they have owners who seemingly fly off the handle like that for one simple mistake. If they didnât, then they lied to us (which would make sense because the younger Palumbo family member we spoke to on the phone the first time was acting incredibly sarcastic and rude on the phone, so I could absolutely see him just pulling our chain).
I sincerely hope the employee in question was not fired. It was a mistake, we all make mistakes. That was never our hope or intention. We just were confused and wanted some answers. If she wasnât though, hopefully she finds a better job elsewhere with more human bosses.
