Last week we heard about a rad new playground at Hoffman Farms Store in Beaverton thanks to @momwhatsnextpdx and omgsh was it amazing! I figured weâd play at the farm for an hour, but nope we were there for 3 entire hours and didn't even make it to picking berries the first time around.
They had a tractor that was transformed into a climbing structure with 2 slides, a large mountain made of tires with a four-way climbing tunnel beneath and a mini tire mountain for little littles. The play area was fenced in and only had one entrance, which put my mama-mind at ease since it can be hard to wrangle a fast crawler and spirited 2 year old. Also, picnic tables and trash/recycling because ya knowâŠsnacking and the inevitable diaper changes!
After the kids got some energy out we visited their open air market and picked up a couple of pies and other treats and then rode the adorable train with all the kiddos. I appreciated seeing that the front passenger cart had a wide swing door and large open space without a seat leading me to believe it was handicapped friendly.
If you're adventuring here with little kids, its helpful to know that they have several spacious portapotties near the playground and market, and they also have portapotties throughout the fields so you won't need to walk back to the main area if you or your kiddos need to go! Also, the ground is firmly packed all over, so you can easily push your kiddos around in a all-terrain friendly jogging stroller like a Bob or pull them in a sturdy wagon.
Also worth noting that they have a private booth area near the main row of portapotties and sinks to accommodate caretakers and mamas in need of a private diaper changing area of...

I love that it is free to enjoy this and you only pay for picking, the train, and the goodies you get in the farm store.
Items I recommend to purchase and treat yourself to: the strawberry milkshakes and their shortcake (if they have them). I am also so appreciative of the gluten-free vegan pie options they offer since we are a food allergy family. My boys love the cherry and mixed berry mini pies.
The other fan favorite is the train ride. They have a diesel and steam style engine and my boys light up for this experience every time. If you are picking strawberries in May/June, I highly recommend buying the train ticket to be taken to and from the fields.
Blueberries, tayberries and other seasonal options are available July-Sept and my favorite, pumpkin picking, is Sept - the first weekend in November.

Read moreSorry Hoffman Farms⊠Iâve loved my fall visits in the past but this year was disappointing. You plowed under the big beautiful sunflower fields!! Why? This used to be the best sunflower field in the area. Now itâs a big grass patch with tractors parked on it????? There is a tiny sunflower plot left - but small plants (not like the huge tall ones of the past) and you canât even walk near the plants - itâs all fenced off. Please rethink this in the future. Also, the pre-picked pumpkins need to be tended better. Many in the bins had split open and were attracting hundreds of bugs. And I know itâs a farm - I expect the pumpkins in the field to be dirty, but the pre-picked were also caked in mud and dirt. All other pumpkin farms have made an attempt to wash off the dirt. And what happened to all the decoration? In years past the old truck had pumpkins stacked around/and in it. And there were more cute photo opps - this year there were a few but hardly any pumpkins stacked around. Sorry, it just wasnât the fun fall outing Iâve had...
