Fly fishing Mecca!! The tailwater section is truly Fly fishing Heaven. Was here first week in June 2018. Walked upstream from Cottonwood Campground to the "ET" Rock. In the evening I could not believe the numbers of monster trout circling and breaching like whales around the 3 very widely spaced fishermen in the river. A bit buggy but thoroughly enjoyed watching the scene unfold. So serene. Visited and stayed in the busy Cottonwood Campground where several precious shade trees (cottonwoods) had unfortunately suffered moderate fire damage caused by careless campers. There needs to be a dedicated effort to establish fresh plantings for future shady stays. No showers but decent restrooms. Campground was full with large RV's. Generator noise was a bit bothersome, at times. Note - Watch and stow your stuff and securely pack it away as there were several marauding racoons each night trying to get into my car and cooler. Started taking my new man to fish here and now I can't seem to get him away. LOL 😆 Can't wait for this coronavirus to go away so all of it will open up again and we can go to Cottonwood Campground and fish. It's handicap accessible docks there are nice. But enjoying what is open and accessible right now. Catching plenty of fish and meeting new ppl and getting and sharing fishing advice. Can't wait for salmon...

The San Juan River is beautiful. We went fishing and canoeing bellow the dam at Navajo Lake. When you are on the river you don’t even know your in the high desert. The water is cold but refreshing on a hot day. The fishing is amazing!! Worth the trip if you like fishing or canoeing.

Absolutely incredible 5 night trip completed in early August 2020. The last couple days were spent navigating sand bars but the San Juan River was completely magical. Big Horned Sheep, Beavers, Ring Tailed Cats, Wild Horses and an amazing variety of Birds to be seen.

Great fishing and even better people! Stop by the Float and Fish Fly Shop for great tips or advice, and don't miss out on the Sportsman cafe.
