Yesterday, I was craving a salad and cantaloupe. I decided to stop here not expecting much (for candy). But, I was pleasantly surprised! The store is much bigger than it looks on the outside. They had a wide variety of items: a meat/butcher section serving fresh lamb meat, bologna, chopped ham, bacon, etc. A Native American jewelry shop (quality sterling silver jewelry), t-shirts, pet food, chicken feed, regular shelf items (canned and boxed), a frozen food section, household items and medicine cabinet items. At the front of the store, there was a small refrigerated section that had prepared salad (cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons and side of dressing) and fresh chopped fruit (cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries and grapes). This was exactly what I wanted! It was fresh, tasty and hit the spot! There is also the usual gas station foods: nachos, pickles, etc. I will definitely be heading back today to pick up another salad, fruit salad and allergy medication. I didn't not use the restroom, so I am unsure of...

The trading post itself is a unique mix of grocery store and souvenir shop. There are two separate rooms dedicated to traditional collections, including ceramics, sculptures, and other cultural treasures. They also have a great selection of books covering the history of the Southwest and the people who have lived—and still live—there.
I really enjoyed wandering through the store, checking out all the fascinating items, and taking a much-needed break from the long overland drive. The ice cream sandwich I grabbed hit the spot, too!

The proprietor John is a very kind man who is Also very understanding. Has owned the trading post for awhile now, and It is honestly great stop. A lot of the cultural items are high priced, but for a good reason. Most of the items were made from locals who have lived in the area for many, many years, and made those things hand made. Has everything from food to arts and crafts, all the way to car supplies. Has a great deli which has fresh food as well. All in all a great place to stop by, to get food, and it's where most of the locals shop and get their food...
