Colored Sands is the home of Sand Bluff Bird Observatory. Visitors can watch bird banding mornings on weekends in the spring and fall. The Banding Station is closed winter, summer and during bad weather. The banding station is licenced by the fish and wildlife department and is staffed...

Colored Sands is off the beaten path, it has very few visitors, a bird banding station, a sand prairie surrounded by oak woods, river for canoeing and kayaking. Sugar River Alder Forest Preserve is right across the road if you want...
