A little over a week ago the JPStrong Foundation held their annual charity golf tournament at this course. I have been in event planning for 20+ years and have never experienced such a dysfunctional management and food/beverage service. We started planning our charity event with their management staff four months prior. I had one in-person meeting with their staff and one conference call with the golf pro (Carey) and the food/beverage director (Bill), which I recorded and they promised us a seamless event with just about everything we ask for. Unfortunately, the day of the event was a disaster. They were not prepared for us, nothing was set-up as ask. The golf carts had a print-out with a 8 a.m. start time, yet our event was not until 1:30 p.m. We were told they would provide tablecloths, but when one of the staff provided them the food/beverage Director Bill came out and chastised me like I was a child in front of everyone for using them! I have never been spoken to in such a manner at a venue where we are paying to have an event. As the event progressed their service became worse. We provided a number of 155 for food and again "Bill" came at me and said we had more people than that and he did not have enough food. I had my staff go through the area and count heads and we had a total of 142. Needless to say he ran out of some of the food. We were also promised bottle water, tea and lemonade and we did not get that with our dinner. We had to beg for a cooler of water for our registration area. Some people left after playing golf because the service was so bad and they didn't like how we were being treated. Our foundation was definitely not welcomed at this club. In the early planning stages everything was great, but come the day of - terrible. The food/beverage director "Bill" has the most horrible customer service I have seen in my 20+ years of event planning. It got to a point where I could not be around him at all, his attitude was so bad towards us. This charity event was a family event so children were onsite with their families. It was a very, very hot day so the older family members and children came into the clubhouse to cool down. This seemed not to be welcomed as we were told everyone needed to go outside as guest would be coming into the clubhouse for dinner...yet we were told we had the premises to ourselves from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Again, no one came in for dinner - but we complied. Needless to say, this course made ALOT of money off of us this particular day - between the event cost, guest ordering drinks from their bar and the number of hamburgers/hotdogs the golfers bought prior to the start. (I was told they were taking the hamburgers/hotdogs out of the clubhouse without paying, so basically being called thieves. The golfers knew that only dinner was included in their tournament fee, not lunch - so I am sure grown men did not steal food). I rec'd so many comments about the service, I was truly embarrassed. This was a charity event where a lot people gave their time and money to raise money for a family in need.
With all that said, unfortunately we will never visit this course again nor will any of our players or guest. Best of luck to you if you do have a large...
Read more8/2025 Update:: I’ll say we’re at about a 3.5/5. I’ll start with the bad first: -Played here twice in the last couple months after being gone for 9 months. Had high hopes but greens are in rough shape. If you like putting through crab grass sprigs, bare spots, and pitch marks you’ll love these greens. Pretty disappointed for the price. -Membership prices are too high for this. Memberships are high and quite frankly complicated and don’t really make much sense when you break them down. -Range balls are not included with twilight (even though it’s listed as included).
-FIX THE GREENS, please!! There should be a shift in focus for that effort! 100% scrub the memberships for clarity, accuracy and reevaluate the prices. That’s my recommendation.
Pros: -Seems like the restaurant has been the priority and it is much better. -Range balls were replaced. (Although not with the same ones that are advertised). -New modernized logo looks pretty good. -Social media presence is getting better. -Tee boxes are nice overall
I live in the neighborhood and would like to see this place succeed in every aspect.
8/2024 A lot is going right at this course. A few things would make this course five stars in my opinion…Mostly revolving around the greens.
Pros: Nice driving range layout. Love hitting off real turf.
Great people and awesome bar and restaurant.
Fun layout. #15, 16 are standouts to me, playing around the river and reeds. Very scenic.
Tee boxes are all flat and well groomed.
Nice fairways and the greens are plush.
Bunker sand is nice and fluffy.
Cons:
A few (2 or 3) greens are healing up in certain parts of the green. Hoping next year they’ll look better.
People aren’t fixing their pitch marks on the green . It’s crazy how many there are. I try to fix 3 or 4 every time. It’s a basic golf thing, please, just do it.
Rake your footprints and please, OMG. Again, another basic golf thing. If you don’t take 30 seconds to rake the bunker, I hope your ball lands in a big footprint.
Get some new driving range balls.
Geese are pecking at some of the greens hard. Not much you can do there but something to note.
Overall, great course and I would highly recommend it. Talking to folks who have been around a while, the course/restaurant/pro shop are all on the upswing with new management/owners and superintendent. Looking forward to some great rounds here in the coming years. I’ll be getting a membership here...
Read more5/21/2021 Have been playing this course since it opened. It’s definitely in the worst shape I have ever seen. Greens are fine in spots just hope you don’t have to put through any of the gouges in the middle of them. It’s been a dry past 10 days so I get the course will also be a little dry but the entire course looked scorched. Everything needs some watering, excluding the large weeds sprouting up all across the fairways. Felt like you are hitting your golf ball of pavement when you are in the fairways. There are ground under repair signs on just about every hole.
Driving your cart between the bridge on 15 & 16 felt risky as the surface of the bridge needs to completely be replaced. Also there are many sections of the cart path throughout the course that need to be repaired so golfers don’t have to come to a complete stop just to gently drive over them.
I will most undoubtedly play this course again but it is at the bottom of my list for a while. The course needs...
