Miami Village Consignment Shoppe — Local services in South Bend

I walked in with items to donate and the owner immediately said “I don’t accept clothes in bags.” No “hello, how are you today?” Or anything else polite. I did not know how consignment shops work and I was just trying to clear out some things from my house that I’ve been meaning to donate for a while. I was dumbfounded by what she said and asked “What kind of clothes do you accept?” And she said “ones on hangers.” Then, she proceeded to look through my clothes anyways, even though she’d just told me she wouldn’t accept them. She had a big collection of hangers. She said a women’s shirt was child’s size because it was an XS. (??) That kind of sizing is completely subjective across brands. She found 2 items that she was willing to take, but I did not want to do business with her at that point. I don’t appreciate being made to feel like an idiot because I didn’t know what her policies were beforehand. I can understand and respect those policies once they’re explained to me. I’m sure she deals with people who can’t and don’t, but that doesn’t give her the right to make assumptions about me before I’ve even said a word to her. It looked like she had a lot of nice items for sale and I had planned to look around, but I wasn’t willing to have her take any of my items or shop there after the way she handled things. I won’t say it isn’t worth shopping here, but keep in mind that the owner is a bit eccentric and proceed...

I visited the shop for the first time to look for a mother of the bride dress for my daughter’s wedding. I didn’t realize that I had arrived within a short time of the shop closing, but Joan and the ladies didn’t rush me or make me feel pressured.

Joan helped me find beautiful dresses to try on, and I quickly found the perfect one for me! Everything that I looked at was very reasonably priced and Joan curates her selection so the styles are current.

I highly recommend the shop. It’s fantastic to have such a good selection to choose from and you leave feeling good about the cost, instead of paying full retail price for a formal piece you may only wear once.
