Made a tee time as a member for a day, took the ferry over, was greeted professionally and had a great front nine, but the back nine was a terrible experience. Standing on the tee for the 10th hole I see maintenance around the green with fertilizer spreaders, spreading what looks like top dressing. When I get to the green sure enough they are top dressing the greens. I get to 11 and maintenance is going gang buster on the green, but they pull of green so I can hit my approach shot, which I land on the green and here comes the spreader, going right over my ball with top dressing, am I really spending 250.00 for this? I pick up my ball and head to 12, but before I can tee off, here comes maintenance racing by heading for the 12th green. Now it takes a lot to get me to complain but I’m having zero fun now so I call pro shop and explain the situation, after being on hold for 5 minutes I hang up and play 12. On 13 tee someone from pro shop shows up, he ask “Are they holding you up” Well no, but I wasn’t expecting to be playing greens like this I say and just wanted to voice my opinion. He just sat there staring at the ground. I chunked my drive and he drove off probably thinking, like he needs good greens. Not a good experience even if I paid 25.00 and felt my concern was valid and should have been...
Read moreHad the opportunity to play Haig last week. Beautiful conditions. Nice and green even with limited rain the past month. Greens were great speed. Some tight driving windows and plenty of trees to hit. Some very legit golf holes out here. 10th hole can eat your lunch all day. We played it at 6900 and it was tough. We were with the mayor of Huntington who is a scratch player and he had some demons out there. Back tee at 7300 would be for the big boys. This course has 4 of the best Par 3s you will ever play in your life! 3 of them with the water behind the green as you get the wind off the bay. All carry to get to every one of them. Incredible view behind the 5th and 17th. 8th hole is good too. Bring your camera. Staff was very good. Nice little locker room and the food was good. You'll pay "island" prices for your drinks but hey, nobody out there cares about money. Pay up Pal or go home. Nice practice area, nice clubhouse. Would come back and play here in a heartbeat. I'll letcha know. We only played the Calibogue course and did not play the 9 hole Osprey course. Thank you Haig Point staff. Shout out to the Gull Lake 4 as well. Get...
Read morePhenomenal experience just as I had heard and it exceeded every expectation! from the moment you stepped foot on the ferry. The ride over is so peaceful and tranquil. the 30 minutes passes by far too quickly! The convenience in hospitality of the staff make everything so simple. the layout of the course is terrific. conditions were pretty good. can't really expect him to be immaculate. Although holes number 8 and 17 are supposedly the signature holes, I felt like there were at least six to eight signature holes. Once you approach the fourth green and the fifth tea box. the course really shines and gives you numerous options to play multiple holes from different angles and tee boxes. big thanks to a member that invited me. Can't wait to get back and not only play this course again but see more of the unique Island and all it has to offer! What a tremendous club, golf...
