I bring a group of 20 guys to the beach every year. We've played almost every course at Myrtle Beach, but this was our first time playing the Legends courses. I will tell you why I loved the courses, but don't recommend going there until they get tee times and cart situation fixed. If you don't mind waiting for carts, you will enjoy the golf.
The reason I would NOT recommend The Legends is because they overbook the course and don't have enough carts. Our tee time on Friday, Oct. 11th was 12:20 at Heathland. I had 20 golfers with me ready to hit the course. The problem was...no golf carts! Around 12:55, 35+ minutes after my guys were pestering me about when we would tee off, the first carts finally rolled in. The excuse on Friday was 1 group was late for their tee time and held up the entire course. The problem is the same issue happened on Oct. 12th at Parkland. It was only 25 minutes after our tee time this day, but so annoying that most of my guys told me not to go back to Legends again. I agreed. We had also hired transportation back and forth each day to the course. Both days, our driver had to wait for us to finish due to the delays earlier in the day, which we had to pay for. Now about the course.
First off was Heathland. What a great course! I would love another shot at this gem. Awesome holes, reachable par 4's, hidden traps...it had it all. Greens were HUGE and in perfect condition. It would rank in the top 10 courses at Myrtle Beach for me. #2 is a very cool par 4, #7's green was a lot of fun. Overall, a great course. At Heathland,, the cart guys were very good and tried to keep my group calm while we waited. Kim, the photographer was awesome and kept us smiling. Jim, the starter, was very helpful and informative. Half our group went off the front, the other half off the back. The groups that went off the back took over 3 hours to play the first 9 holes! The second 9 was faster, but still took 5:30 to play. Not good!
The second day, Oct. 12th, we played Parkland. The Starter at Parkland was great. Cart girl was awesome. The course was another gem. I liked Heathland a little better, but this course was another great track. Huge greens in excellent shape, challenging holes...lots of fun!
The second day at Parkland came with the same experience, but with a twist. We waited another 25 minutes past our original tee time. But the twist this day was the A-Hole of a Cart Guy. I didn't catch his name, but he was wearing a West Virginia hat. His job is to lift a golf bag 5 feet and place it on the carts. He made numerous comments to my guys about not getting tips. He even made a comment about one of my guys not being a true WV person because he didn't tip him. So, let's get this straight...I have 20 guys waiting patiently 25 minutes after the tee time for carts and the cart guy is harassing us about tips the entire time. The guys in my 4some gave him $12. This guy should be fired!
The bar staff was awesome and food was delicious. 2 Free beers and Lunch included each day was very nice. The snack bar lady was quick with service and did a great job.
I hate the fact that my group can't recommend such an awesome property. Hopefully management reads the review and makes some changes. Fix your cart/tee time issues and you get 5 out of 5 stars.

Read moreThe courses are in great shape and I tip my hat to the golf course maintenance staff. Marshals are pretty good too. But boy does the inside staff behind the pro shop make you feel like your troubling them and if they had it their way they would want you to leave. Very unwelcoming and very unprofessional. They own Heritage as well, who are dynamite high quality professionals from pro shop to restaurant to starters. They should all go their for retraining to learn how to be professional and actually welcome customers. And asking for the "free round subject to availability" in January is like pulling good teeth and they make you feel very unwelcomed to ask about a promotion they are offering!! If you don't want people to play a free 2nd round because it bugs you, then don't promote it!! Then you gotta tip/pay/give starters a few more bucks to get them to look at you or act. Maybe its just me, but I find that uncomfortable to slip somebody a few buck so I get served before someone else. It feels sly and would rather pay for a replay round and be respected as a customer as opposed to a shady guy trying to buy a starter's attention over another paying customer. The starters/bag loaders literally wait until 2 minutes before the first group tees off to start loading up the carts and its like mayhem and a zoo out there and no one knows who is working there or is a customer, no labels, no announcements and nobody really knows what the heck is going on. No one from Legends provides an update on frost delays. A simple announcement in the club house and where all the 100's of golf bags and carts are wouldnt be such a difficult task.... I mean really.... all other golf courses do that but not Legends. You can't find a starter or bag loader until 2 minutes before you hear from some other golfer as to when we tee off. Its very disorganized and unprofessional. Again, something they should learn from staff at heritage where those staff are on time, provide updates, freindly, professional and you enjoy the experience..... I wont be going back to Legends anymore. Perhaps the problem is not the staff but management because its been like this for a few years now and just getting worse. Too bad. They had a nice thing going and I always convinced my crew to play legends courses when we go down to Myrtle beach. Not anymore... moving my 2 yearly trips to Myrtle beach with my crew to other golf courses where we can be respected and feel like a special golf day is going to happen. Instead I have to calm down the other members of my group and make excuses for such poor customer...
Read moreDuring a low time for my wife, me and the country, The Legends Golf Resort lifted us up! Pandemic 2020, just coming out of lockdowns and restaurant reopening, along comes our marriage anniversary. It was a difficult winter for us all!
One hundred years ago, it seems, I played Myrtle Beach with a few Co-Workers and we loved it. Ok maybe like 1993. The Legends was to talk of the Time, just opening up its 3 main courses. Back then, I really could not afford to play the Legends, nor could my buddies.
2nd Marriages are like mulligans, you get another shot. So make the best of it, if you are smart. LOL
I suggested to my wife, hey lets drive to Myrtle Beach for our 3rd anniversary in August and play golf for a week. She agreed. After several attempts to get a response from a few, so called, Golf Travel agents, I finally received one response from one agent, Micheal Toth at GolfTrex. After a few emails, we nailed down a package at The Legends. A place on the Large Bucket list! We stayed in the Village 2 bed condo accommodations great. A placed comofortable for 4 and we had 2, SPACIOUS! The Pools were closed, but no biggy, a sign of the times. Breakfast was severed only with limited choice, n as was lunch, pandemic CDC rules. Everything was great! We had the best Anniversary Time. We have been to Myrtle twice since that first trip, through Mike and GolfTrex. Micheal always hooks us up! Played 10 different courses from the low country of Pawley's Island to Merrills inlet. Some great, some Good, one bad that we left after 4 holes, but Micheal hooked us up to replay Blackmoor for the afternoon. Accommodations for those trips; One awful, One good. Stay away from the older beach front hotels, I've heard most are pretty beat up. All the while, we would say, hey remember our first trip to Myrtle, boy that Legends trip was the best! Along our journeys to SC we discovered Broadway on the Beach, The Local State Park to beach it, in the afternoons, The Boardwalk, The Shops, local bar events like Taco and Toquilla Tuesday at The Boat House, MB and a few shows while on golf holiday, At Myrtle's, Unmatched, Fun and Golf destination. August 2022, we will be at The Legends again for our 5th Anniversary! I could not be more psyched! Going to play 5 days, 4 at the big 3 LANDS and one day at Oyster Bay, another new one to the list. FYI: Don't listen to the few trolls, on this or any review thread. The Legends...
