Yes, of course, we now live in a world of unrealistically cheap items delivered near-instantaneously to our doorstep. And, while price and delivery times are important components of the shopping process, they are not the totality of value.

Gollihur Music staffs knowledgeable, helpful, and kind people who go above and beyond the simple act of selling merchandise. Their articles are like miniature master classes. Their individualized email responses are like conversations with a mentor. Their product descriptions are like a thorough review from a trusted friend.

After I bought a bow, I told my teacher. He said, “You should have talked to me first. What did you get?” I told him I bought it from Gollihur, and he said “Oh! Whatever you got will be fine then. They only sell good stuff.” My teacher is a classical performer in the local symphony who is also a highly regarded member of the local jazz scene. His trust in Gollihur Music is HIGH praise.

Could I save a dollar or two and get the items a day or two sooner by going somewhere else? Maybe. Do I care? Hell no! I’d cut off my right pinky if they needed it — they’re...

It started with a question about the practicality of converting a right handed electric upright bass (EUB) to a lefty, since the lefty I wanted wasn't available anywhere. A few emails later and Mark not only had the one I wanted, but would get it set up as quickly as he could for purchase. The whole process from start to finish was professional, attentive and hands-on. Even when there was a glitch with delivery, Mark and his team kept in contact regarding progress and next steps. When my bass finally arrived, everything on the invoice was there and in perfect order. There were clear instructions on how to set it up, which was a big help considering I wasn't sure about bridge position and was clueless as to where to place the pickup! The gig bag is probably the best quality I've seen for a soft case. It's so well-padded I won't have any worries about transporting my EUB anywhere without the need break it down first. I'm so glad I asked that question! I love the experience I had with Gollihur Music and will definitely be returning. If you're not sure where to shop, these folks top my list! Thanks...

I've been dealing with the folks at Gollihur Music for nearly 2 decades. Whether it be amplification or strings or pickups, they have always been been very willing to help and quick to respond to my questions. Several months back I emailed Mark about some sound issues with an old EUB. Even though I didn't buy it from Gollihur, Mark was quick to provide me some insights about adjusting the pickups under the bridge. Sure enough - that is what it needed! More recently, I decided to purchase a new EUB - but I was going to look at a used one first. Again, Mark provided me sound advice about what to look for. In the end, I purchased a new one from Gollihur Music. Their price beat the used model, and Mark was able to swap out a different for me. And it arrived in ONE day! Great folks! - - - Oh yea, the NXTa is a superb item! The fretboard is smooth as silk, and the fabulous pickups amplify every note clearly and at the same volume (relative to my 'picking' the notes). A profound thanks to Mark and all the professionals at Gollihur for their many years of service to all of us...

The Realist LifeLine pickup is great. I especially appreciated Gollihur Music’s pictures detailing the size choices and the honest assessment of bridges that would and wouldn’t work well. I did find that I had to level the (thread down) adjusters to make the pickup work at its best - little adjustments over the years had left it uneven. I replaced a 27-year old 2nd generation Realist pickup and the sound quality upgrade is dramatic. The output impedance is also lower making it more flexible than the old one. First gig out, it was easy to get a full, warm sound that also cut through in all the right ways. I have a very slight rounding of corners on my bridge feet. I like the sound, but the next time I’m in the shop, I’m going to ask to flatten those to see if there’s a tonal difference. I bought the extra clip, but in the end didn’t use it because I have a mic attached with its XLR connector pointing down, so using the single loop under the G works better for cables. Thanks!

Recently, my gigs have called for upright as well as electric bass…this brought up a number of issues. Having to carry 2 amps, lugging around complicated effects, where to put my upright on stage when I’m playing electric…. I’m sure this is not new to most of you. After a great chat with Gollihur, I was able to sort everything out perfectly. One stop shop. I picked up a Stanley Clark EBS preamp and was given lots of advise on how to wire it up. The thing sounds amazing for both instruments! The separate HP/Notch filter helps control the boom of my upright. Separate gain for each channel to equalize the levels….perfect. The other less expected thing I like about this preamp is the Cab sim. It lets me plug directly into club PA’s while retaining fantastic sound. I highly recommend. This is the small peddle board I put together for this gig. The compressor is only for the electric bass….

Mark and Gollihur music are the best. I was classically trained in elementary through high school but spent the past 50 years in rock bands with my Rickenbacker. I recently bought a 1937 Kay Maestro-1. I was all over the place thinking about strings and a pick-up. Finally, picked up the phone and spoke to Mark. He recommended Zyex strings and a KNA pick-up. We had a hootenanny at my house last weekend and the Kay performed flawlessly. I should add that everything Mark recommended was les expensive than what I was initially looking at. He listened to my needs and made great recommendations. I won’t be using any other store for my upright bass equipment going forward. You should do the same. Thank you Mark.
