This was my first experience at a Renaissance festival. I loved that there were static buildings here. It made the place feel less like a pop-up carnival. There is a good blend of casual on lookers and full dress up participants. Food here is a bit on the expensive side like with any venue event. Expect to spend about $7-$15 per person for a drink and an entree, depending on what kind of drink and entree. I had a pulled pork sandwich for lunch and it was delicious. I also had a beer. The beer being served in short plastic punch cups made it feel like I wasn't getting much beer. Some of the more dressed up patrons carried mugs and had those filled, but I'm not sure what the deal is there. For dinner I had a turkey leg and another beer. My turkey leg was a bit overdone. The dark meat portions of it were pretty good, but the white meat was a bit dry. The seasoning was also a bit lack luster.
While eating lunch we watched part of the Dueling Swordsman show which was funny and entertaining. Be warned that this show is full of innuendos.
The next show we saw was the Squire on a Wire. It was an impressive juggling and tight rope act. Additionally the Squire told many funny jokes that were subtle and clever.
The next show was by far my favorite. The Greatest Pirate Story Never Told features 4 comedians/actors/singers and a musician. The premise it that the prologue to their sketch is incomplete and they ask the audience to fill in the missing words. For example ours was "The great Captain Delusional, set out with his crew to plunder Dignity." With delusional and dignity being audience suggestions. After the prologue is filled in, the actors then improv the rest of the show. Our Captain acted delusional the whole time. The actors also take a number of pages from the TV show "Whose line is it Anyway" and play games like "change it" and "Irish drinking song".
We then immediately turned around and watched a musical performance. This trailer had large church bells and they were wired up to a physical keyboard. The man playing them talks a bit about the instrument and how rare it is. He plays obvious classics like "Hallelujah" and "Carol of the Bells"
The final act we watched was the Joust. This is definitely the main act of the day. People start claiming seats about an hour before the show starts. Unfortunately our experience was a bit ruined because we couldn't hear what was going on. So either get seats hear the front where you can hear the actors or close enough to the speakers that the voices are audible. This show has a simple but exciting story and even some bloody special effects. Overall a very entertaining show.
The shops are things you can expect to see at conventions. Tons of jewellery, clothes, hats, weapons, etc. The shop tenders are often in character and are all very friendly.
A word of caution: some stands, like food, take only cash. Larger ticket items such as full costumes and swords are more likely to accept card.
Finally, the acts and food all expect tips after providing their service. I blew through about $70 just for my fiancee and myself. I paid for all food and...
Read moreI go every year, and it never gets old! First and foremost, I am a huge fan of the vendor Puzzle Rings by Pepi. I buy a ring every year, and this year even bought & exchanged rings with my partner for a cute romantic twist. These are the only rings that I can comfortably leave on all day and night. Accidentally leave it on during a shower or while washing hands? No problem, all is well. I've had rings from this vendor for years, some I wear almost every day, and with the proper care they're still in perfect condition, fit perfectly, and don't bother my skin. They turn my finger underneath green for maybe like the first day of wear, IF even, and then from then on there are no reactions or rashes, despite any sweat or moisture.
Another vendor I love is the one where you can have scents of your choice mixed together into a vial on a necklace. I get one of these each year too, and the scent lasts, though of course it does start to dry up a bit over time. I wish I remembered the name!
As for the theatrics, I was especially impressed this year with how they changed up the joust show a bit, made it fresh and more exciting.
My only complaint- why was water $3.50 per 16 fl oz bottle? Outrageous. And not a water fountain in sight.... For people like me with health issues, this just felt mean, and like I couldn't stay at the fair as long unless I wanted to spend $20+ on water. There should be water fountains, or maybe the water could be $2 per bottle instead. Very upsetting. I get that we all have to make money, but it just seems unfair when keeping hydrated is a matter of health, especially out in the heat. Soda was $3 by the way,...
Read morePRF is definitely entertaining! Parking was plentiful. This place is busy! Lots going on all around! There are many things to do for all ages. I was not disappointed. The actors are very friendly and accommodating. They are eager to take pictures with the children. They seem to enjoy their jobs and the customers can easily tell! There are many places to shop within the festival. My family shopped for kettle corn, jewelry, incense, gems/rocks, katana sword, and princess halo. This place is a nice place to spend a fall day. The children really enjoyed it. There are many shows through the festival. I was able to catch the fire guy, ballet dancer, musical bell player, jousting Duel, and bird preformer. The festival was extremely packed. I do think that the admission prices are slightly high for what you get. I had a coupon for a child enters free with a full paying adult. 2 adults and 2 children got in for $48 and had access to the shows. It can get pretty pricey very fast. Food, drinks, games, and haunted house was an additional expense. Lines were extremely long to get food and drinks. No pandemic precautions were being practiced. Bathroom porta potties we're seriously disgusting! Completely gross and unsanitary! Some of the shops were expensive. There was a shop selling belly dancer skirt for $25 when the same thing is on amazon for $12. Nice place but prices were definitely inflated and staff are taught to hustle...
