When I say that this place is unlike any other, I truly mean it. I’m from the heart of bourbon country in Kentucky, so when I heard a new distillery was open just a short drive from where my husband and I live, there was no question we were booking a tour and having ourselves a date night.

Upon driving up to the campus, we were both immediately impressed. The beautiful structures and welcoming atmosphere was easily felt before even walking in. But the inside…WOW. The place is effortlessly elegant without trying so hard. We already could tell every piece of the facility had a story, a meaning, a sentiment, but the tour only solidified that. Our tour guide whose name escapes me (but he’s a charismatic school teacher by day) was wonderful, engaging, and clearly loves being apart of BHAWK’s story.

The bourbon itself is excellent. Having been on the Bourbon Trail myself, tonight’s tasting at BHAWK was the first time I actually ENJOYED the bourbon we got to try. So naturally, we brought some home.

The food is a whole other delicious expedition - from the butter bean hummus to the succulent chicken sandwich and uniquely enticing burger, we left satiated and happy, to say the least.

But most importantly about BHAWK is what it and its founders Brad and Jess bring to the community. Not just the physical Southern Pines town itself, but to the communities it brings together - the crossroads where veterans, current service members, bourbon connoisseurs, and those who just enjoy spending time in a cozy, elevated atmosphere all meet to create an experience that everyone can enjoy.

The history, the meaning, the honor of BHAWK is palpable, but not in an in-your-face, “‘Murica” sort of way. BHAWK does its owners’ vision justice and then some. BHAWK tells a story that everyone will take a little piece of when they leave.

Brad Halling American Whiskey Ko (BHAWK) has quickly become one of my favorite places to go. The space has that modern whiskey-bar feel—warm wood, barrel accents, and cozy lighting that make you want to hang out a while. It’s always clean but still feels laid-back and inviting, whether it’s for a casual lunch or just relaxing with friends in the evening. The outside area is great too—fresh air, comfortable seating, and plenty of space to enjoy a meal or a drink when the weather’s nice.

The food never misses. The BLT, chicken sandwich, and burger are all excellent, and the fries are some of the best around. The bar offers a solid mix of beers and cocktails, and you can tell they don’t cut corners on ingredients.

What makes it even better are the people behind it. Brad and Jessica both served in special operations in the armed forces, and you can see that same dedication and passion in what they’ve built here. They and their team are always welcoming and make you feel at home. Their love for whiskey shows in the spirits they produce and the cocktails they pour. I was also happy to pick up a bottle of Sergeant’s Valor Gratitude Bourbon Whiskey to take home—a perfect reminder of such a great visit.

It’s family-friendly too, with a kids’ play area and even a little shop next door for merchandise. Whether I’m there with friends, with family, or just stopping in for a drink, I always leave impressed and already looking forward to the next visit.
