Road Commission of Oakland County — Local services in Southfield Township

First, let me state that I am not an Oakland County Resident thankfully. I called to report how terrible a road is today because I felt it necessary for the safety of the school children on two different school buses that I seen and for myself and my daughter and others on Johns Road and 11 mile Road In Novi. I found these roads through my GPS because of 10 mile Rd being closed. Unfortunately, I am not all knowing of every road closure in the state of Michigan or which road to take. I didn't see the detour signs till I literally got to the closure and had to turn around. So like many people I relied on my GPS. So sorry to the lady who answered the telephone that I don't know every road closure in the state of Michigan but I do feel I need to speak up when the potholes are larger than meteor crater in Winslow, AZ. First her attitude made me more than mad. When I stated that I took the roads she told me that it was not the posted detour. That's when I lost it. I personally don't give a rats bottom if it is or not. What I care about is that it's so bad that the school busses are dodging potholes and cars. If my child was on one of those busses I'd be scared that they would need cervical collar after one trip down that road. One kid falls off the seat of that school bus which doesn't have seat belts and now Ur looking at a head injury, cervical halo probably and multiple surgeries. I am not exaggerating either. Needless to say I lost my temper with her. She's so perfect that she doesn't need GPS and must know every detour and side road through out Michigan. I was going as slow as I could and let me tell you I wish I had never gone down that road. I had to tell my daughter to hold her head with her hands because I was afraid for her. Let's just say I'm glad I don't live in Oakland county and I hope that they do...

So many issues. First of all Oakland county was one of the richest counties in America for decades. Where is the infrastructure? No excuse for lack of tax funding. We have more dirt roads than a 3rd world country. When people visit from out of state they wonder why there are so many dirt roads. Speaking of third world countries, the paved roads look like Iraq during a war. Massive potholes everywhere. The quality of work is sad. Other cold weather states don't have these issues. The roads in the UP stay pretty nice compared to down here. Maybe do it right the first time. Use better materials. Go thicker. Stabilize the edge of the road more so the support under the road doesn't wash away causing the edge of the road to crumble. Don't allow ridiculously loaded semi trucks on the roads. The dirt roads are tough to pass with a 4 wheel drive truck. They don't get grated nearly enough. They don't put down chloride on the dirt roads enough. If they did this, the road would stay stabilized longer, also you wouldn't get all the dust in the summer. I told them to put extra chloride on the road once and they actually did it, and it was amazing how long the road lasted before needing a grating. Like 3 x as long. I don't even know much about roads, but I managed to figure that out just by observation. Then there is the snow clearing and salt application. You can tell when you enter or leave Oakland county, because the other counties will be plowed and salted...

HORRIBLE!!! I have called many times in the last month about my road, so has my husband and multiple neighbors. They haven’t done a single thing or pot hole. It’s absolutely ridiculous! You call and get and annoyed woman answering the phone and says they are doing the best they can. Well that’s not good enough!! A month?! I have seen them grating roads not nearly as bad as mine. Are they going to pay for my cracked rim when I get one? No they aren’t! There are parts of my road that are underivable! I am documenting and took pictures so if that happens I have records of when I called and the horrific conditions of the road. They don’t care!! If they kept up with it it would never be in the state it’s in. I live on a busy main road that gets huge trucks and buses. It should be kept in better condition than it is. If it’s not fixed this week I will be going above the road...
