very disappointed in my experience with this school this past few months. i decided to come back to pursue a certificate knowing there was a chance i maybe wouldn’t qualify for the live to chase initiative since i already got an associates degree here, no problem there. called up here in june to ask because i wasn’t too sure with the wording on the website and wanted to make sure, whatever man i spoke to in financial aid said it wouldn’t be a problem! great! but fast forward to july and its definitely a problem, because since i was told that i still qualified that was the whole reason i even applied again in the first place. first person i’ve met here that can’t do their job correctly. so whatever, i’ll figure out what to do for tuition because i didn’t want that to stop me from pursuing this certificate. not only did i have to personally come up here to see what was up with my application (the very nice lady in admissions was incredibly helpful and was one of two great experiences i had here) but my email doesn’t work. forget the fact that i literally graduated in 2023 because according to my email it doesn’t exist. fine. so i go to the it department. i have never in my life meet an entire department as useless as this one. couldn’t be helped in the office, called at least three times and being met with people from a help desk that didn’t know what was doing on, and being passed over to whoever in the it department and emails wouldn’t barely go through half the time because i’m out of the organization. the last email i received regarding my email was august 7th and i’ve been ghosted since. i was told that there was a brand new system in place and staff were still navigating it and while i completely understand, there is still no excuse for the lack of urgency in fixing issues with students. my email issue is the reason i had to drop every class and forget about coming back to school. and i don’t even want to talk about whoever i emailed in financial aid that not only had an attitude with me for asking a question that i didn’t realize was meant for another department, but also sending me an email about “how i need to check my student email” which mind you I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO and said such in the email that was responded to. lack of reading comprehension. compared to me being here the first time this was a terrible experience and i don’t know what you all have going on but caring about the students would be a great start for you all. very disappointed that i’ll be missing the program i applied to because the professors were lovely but i absolutely refuse to deal with...
Read moreEvery semester I have gone to this school there has been an issue. Whether it be instructors posting out of date instructions for assignments online for current students or FA issues. They advertise online degree programs but there has not been one semester that I didnt have to go to the school for something. For English classes you have to go to their TLC to get your papers Grammar checked by someone, and get you a little slip saying they did.....then PDF all that and email to your teacher...makes sense. For the Math classes you have to go to the testing center, but quizzes and HW is ok to do online through Pearsons. None of that is listed on the descriptions of the class before you enroll, so that is pretty misleading of them. If you do go to class, dont expect many of the teachers to help you because "they are not paid for that" they will tell you to go to the TLC to get help. All they do is read exactly what is in the book you bought, that you may or may not have to use...which you wont find out until after you have opened it or its too late to get a FULL refund (even if unopened, few days time limit on that). So dont think any of their online degree programs are online only, its more of a hybrid school. Some of the computer classes for most of their online degrees are only taught in either the Spring/Fall semester and you have to attend class at the main campus. So all in all it aint much of an online degree if I have to go to your school for anything. Prices are decent. Supposed credit transfers to some 4 year schools if you want to get a BS, but we shall see about that when my son tries to...
Read moreNon-Traditional Adult Student here. I’ve had a great experience at SCC so far. Staff have been helpful and personable from my instructors, financial aid office and support staff. I plan on doing my entire Associates Online and then transfer to a 4 year. With grants available this has been an excellent and extremely affordable option. I highly recommend to any type of student to consider SCC and just to go talk to staff to get more information, they were more then happy to help me every step of the way. Website and online tools needed to succeed are intuitive and there are SO MANY resources at your finger tips to help you succeed! I can’t stress just how many available options are at SCC to help students, you will get out of it what you put into it!
EDIT: 01/03/2023 - Graduated from SCC last May, got a majority of the next two years paid for at my next school. My advice is join PTK for the scholarships available at 4-year school’s for members, check to see other transfer scholarships are available to other schools based off of your GPA, and if you’re looking at going online, check to see if schools offer online tuition at the in state rate. Combine all that with good grades at SCC and you’ll be in great shape. I’m glad I went to SCC, it launched me on a trajectory of learning I didn’t think possible and opened doors to other opportunities. Best and easiest...
