If you're looking for a martial arts style that can be applied to the real world, it's Brazilian jujitsu! If you're looking for a gym that teaches BJJ, choose Upper Academy! You are not limited to only BJJ there; you also have access to MMA, cardio kickboxing, and wrestling classes at Upper Academy! These are just some of the reasons why this gym was voted #1 in Hernando county for martial arts;

Firstly it's Coach Walber, who is the professor for BJJ and runs the gym. From an outsider looking in, you can tell Brazilian jujitsu is his passion. It shows by not just the way he runs his gym, but how above and beyond he goes for each of his kids and adults. He truly wants you and your children to find the best version of themselves. He's the best mixture of silly and tough for the kids. When it's rolling time.. he's right next to the kids coaching them throughout it. He will be down on the ground showing the move during a live roll, he's not just standing back watching. During live rolls there's so many learning opportunities, and he uses that time as well to continue his teachings. When I say he truly sees a champion in everyone who steps foot on the mat, I mean it! He works so hard for you or your kid so that they too can see it. He has traveled states for these kids to compete in competitions. He will be in one city for a competition with a set of a kids, then rush across cities to another competition where another set of his kids are competing. He's non stop trying his best, he sees no limit and it shows through his work. He is the Coach you want in your corner!

Secondly, it's the kids! I really mean it; these kids are absolutely amazing not just on the mat, but off as well! They are all so kind, humble and patient. While Coach teaches a technique, the older higher belt kids come around and help all of the kids. This helps with efficiency, no one's standing around waiting for 10mins for help with the move. Help is right there, and the older kids are so nice and patient with the little kids. So while Coach is running around to each set of partners to ensure the move is correct, the kids have been practicing with the big kids help. Each of these older kids would make such a trustworthy professional nanny to be honest. Not only can they protect, but I would trust them 100% with my little kids.. and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only parent that thinks this. They really are that great!

Thirdly, the adults! Not only do they crush it in adult competitions, they are also great at helping professor Walbur if needed. If he's out at a competition with a set of kids, most of the time an adult or two from his adult class can step in and teach a kids class. A second Coach was made from his adult class, Coach Eli who's been great with the little kids classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays! They've all been so nice and patient to the kids. Everyone is rooting for everyone here!
