This place is pretty impressive but the customer service is lacking… I actually live here in the area but I’ve always gone to Smileys for all my produce, ZK Ranches for my meat, and Bryant’s Amish Country Store in Greenbrier for my canned goods. Today I decided to try this place instead and I don’t know that it was necessarily worth my stop… I will have to compare prices the next time I’m here but I definitely learned not to ask any questions. We typically buy all of our raw milk, eggs, butter, and cheese from a farm up in Kentucky because raw and straight from the farm is what our family has grown up on but definitely don’t ask if they offer those types of products, don’t question how the products are processed, just don’t ask questions… one of the female owners seemed rather miffed that I was asking any of these questions. I’m just trying to feed my family healthy options Ma’m. I’m not judging or questioning your business practices… sheesh.
I’m aware there’s a loyalty to a certain church and private school here in this area and I did see a fair amount of people from there today who were met with smiles and happy voices. I do not work there or attend there so I don’t know if that was part of the manner in which I was met or if maybe Momma was just having a rough day.
I’m going to compare prices and then I will decide what to do from here.
They do have a huge refrigerated section compared to Smileys and Bryant’s and they do offer some good meat options but that’s really all I saw that they had over the others. (Minus ZK Ranches - who was closed, which is why I came here in the first place).
Their produce is pretty and looks good but I don’t know if they grow it without chemicals and I wasn’t about to ask after my other question. Ha! Yikes. I’ll find out some other way… That being said, I either got there too late today and it has all been picked over already or they just don’t have a lot to begin with. I’ll have to come on a Saturday morning instead to see what it looks like.
I did not try the ice cream but just about everyone had one in their hand so it must be tasty.
Parking is super limited and quite the crunch as well, especially if you have an SUV of any size. Try parking on the shoulder of the side road and just walking. It’s not worth your insurance if you accidentally hit someone trying to back out in that small parking lot and it’s not worth the rearranging of your day if you get hit by someone else trying it o back out in such a small tight space.
Overall - gorgeous little store. Well organized and well planned out. Pretty impressive place as a whole. I am considering coming back on a Saturday morning instead to see what the options are then. Otherwise, between the three places I mentioned above, I may just stick with those since they seem to offer more...
Read moreI have never ever seen more beautiful produce except maybe in Seattle, but they will give them a run for their $. The mums are beautiful, spreading almost 2 ft or more in diameter, high as my hip, and filled with God's beautiful colors. Their produce and products are delicious! You can taste the REAL apple in the cider and chunks of fruit in the jam. The tomatoes are bigger than my fist and come in flavor bursting beefsteak or sweet. The guys even picked the best apples for us. Hint they have honey crisp, but they also have something better...crunchyer and sweeeeet! Everything is beyond amazing with Hancock Family Farms including their workers! Be sure to see AL 😃 Their prices are just as amazing as their people...
