If I could give zero stars, then I would. This place is absolutely the worst place that I have ever seen. I made arrangements for boarding my dogs over the phone, since I live out of state and wanted to visit some family that live in the area this past summer. I based my decision to board with this particular vet off of the 3 reviews here and off of the vet's own website described this place. Very MISLEADING!!! All WRONG!!! I got into Spruce Pine and went to drop off my dogs at Mitchell County Vet. The whole place is extremely small and close to a high traffic road. So I decided to tour where my babies were to stay for the next 10 days and it was HORRIBLE. Since they are close to a high traffic road one would think they would have a fenced in back yard. WRONG- no backyard to speak of, just barely a walkway that they deem as a dogrun. They just walk the dogs on leash maybe 3 times a day and I quote "when the staff has time in between appointments." I asked about the weekends and if they check on the dogs and they stated they do not come into to check on the animals over the weekend. In fact they don't come in at all. So that leaves my babies without being walked and shut up in their cages over the weekend with more than like low food/water bowls and their own waste. And 1 of my dogs has a health issue, glaucoma and needs eye drops twice daily. I then asked to see the cages and they are extremely small and the lighting is poor. They had one dog boarding in there when I toured the place and it was scared absolutely to death, it looked like it was ready for a heart attack with the way it was shivering. They had music playing trying to calm the dog down. The other unused cages were filthy and smell strongly of urine and feces. The whole place reminded me of a dungeon. I don't know why the other reviewers on here are kissing this facility's ass and giving it high ratings and 5 stars. They must be related to the degenrate rejects that work at this veterinarian clinic or they didn't take the time to tour the place and ask very important questions is all I can say. I have traveled all over and I can honestly say that this place is in the top 5 of filthy places that I have ever had the displeasure of stepping into. If I were you, dear reader of reviews, please please take your animals some place else if you don't want your animals extremely sick and don't want them to die. I ended up saying NO to Mitchell Vet and taking my dogs that day to Stewart's Mountain Veterinarian Clinic it's on the road going towards Burnsville and they are wonderful! They were able to get me in on very short notice, Thank God. They have a fenced in back yard that's plenty big enough and clean the cages daily and make sure your pets are cared for and walked even on weekends. They have good bright lighting and beat Mitchell Vet all to pieces. Stewart's whole place was extremely clean and I was very pleased with Stewart's. I am highly considering turning Mitchell County Vet into the powers that be and to see if I can't get them shut down. Maybe the Humane Society.
It's not lies when it's based of facts and evidence. And your practice should be ashamed of it's self in having a...
Read moreI don't like to leave negative reviews but in all fairness I gave them an opportunity to make amends. This place is nice and clean and everyone is very friendly and eager to help. The doctor was nice and seemed genuinely friendly. I went to this vet in the first place because the reviews were good. I called them to inquire about the cost of the rabies vaccine for my pup. I was quoted approx $75 (can't recall exactly). The reason I called is because I needed to know the cost since I haven't worked in a few months. When I got there everything went well and he got his shot. Came time to pay I was handed a $140 bill! I asked why more than quoted and was told its because of the doctor's consultation. What if I didn't have enough?? I understand the doctor charges for the visit BUT when I called I should have been informed. I called for the cost and was not given exact price. $75 is already a hefty price for a rabies shot. oh well I said...live and learn. Anyway, not even 10 minutes had passed since I left I started to receive text messages and calls from some companies about pet insurance, everyday! Ended up having to block several numbers to make it end. Fast forward a couple of months, I went there again (stupid me) to get him some deworming pills. We weighed him and the girl went and got his pills. $104! I asked why so much? "Well, we switched to this better brand (Drontal) and he is a big dog and needs a bigger dose". So I went home thinking I need to find a different solution. There's no way I will spend $104 every 5-6 weeks on a dewormer. Looked online and most stores were selling the EXACT brand and dosage for $50-$59 dollars. These were not discount online retailers but brick and mortar stores such as Petco.(which had auto monthly ship price at $43) I understand they have a bigger buying power not half price. I prefer to support local retailers and will pay slightly more for a service but not double! So I called them, maybe there was a mistake? She told me they buy 30 pills $400, thats $13.33 per pill and then sold me 3 for $104!!) I was given the run around and in the end was promised a call from the doctor. I waited 5 days and no call. I guess price gouging and then losing a customer over $50 is how they choose to do business. you want to go there? Get upfront pricing before you decide. I'll take my business to...
Read moreI was SUPER nervous to switch vets. I've been driving an hour and a half for over two years in order to stay with the Veterinarian team I had before my move. I'm sure many of you know what it is like to compare a new veterinarian, doctor or other specialist to one that you've felt super comfortable with. That said, my experience at Mitchell Veterinary Hospital exceeded my expectations. My itty bitty criticism is that for each new person, outside of the doctor, I had to initiate a name introduction. I know it might seem weird but that thing has always mattered to me. Still, I'm doing a five-star review because my overall experience was remarkable. They absolutely focus on "fear free" experiences. Dr. Kelly Georgeou is not only focused and professional but also deeply compassionate. She and the tech that worked with us, seemed to have a connection that allowed unspoken needs and expectations to be met. I was able to be with my furbaby every second and help comfort her during the exam, shot, and blood draw. There are doggy bandanas in the lobby that have a calming scent which they allow patients to put on their pets. I was actually surprised that this seemed to have an affect on my 11 year old Chihuahua. She stopped shaking and was pretty chill during the entire visit. We were even allowed to take the banana home with us. After the exam Dr. Dr. Georgeou made some recommendations for upcoming care procedures that may benefit YumYum. I was anxious about fees as my life has been pretty affected financially this year. When I was shown the estimate I felt relieved. Vet care is never cheap but with all the work that had been performed at this visit I was presently surprised by the prices. I feel fortunate to have found Mitchell Veterinary Hospital. The office is very clean, smells really good, and has a relatively spacious waiting area. You are greeted by an African Grey and a Dove upon entry. The staff are tremendously helpful and kind. The prices are fair and comparable to what I've experienced before. Most importantly, however, is that my furbaby felt comfortable and was treated like the princess she believes herself to be. My favorite part was that the staff spoke to YumYum the same way we speak to her at home. I can't wait to bring my other kiddo in. If you've been looking for a great vet in this area,...
