We just got back from a 5 day vacation, and it’s like our dog got one too after staying with Mugus! And that’s what I mean, he stayed WITH Mugus, not AT Mugus Pet Resort. Because they made him feel right at home! They let me bring whatever my heart desired to make our family dog’s stay feel like home. I dropped Bruno off with his bed, blanket, stuffed animal toy, food, Kong with treats, his bedtime greenies, milkbones, and even a picture of the family. Bruno was sent home with his food all ate, treats used as instructed, and the staff even showed Bruno the family picture daily to maybe bring him some comfort in the fact that we would be back to pick him up. The girls at the front desk are super nice and reassuring, understanding how stressful it can be to leave a “family member” behind. We have a Fi collar for Bruno to track him if he ever got lost. They kept the base for the collar plugged in at the front desk and were ready to charge the collar if the battery got low. The Fi collar also tracks his steps and sleep. He hit his step goal Every day! And he slept through the night each night, not staying up barking or howling because he felt lonely. Each day the daycare was open, they let him play all day with his friends! I was worried he would be confined to his climate controlled room with an outdoor run, but no! We take Bruno to daycare twice a week already, so he felt normalcy getting to go to daycare all day. They also responded to me quickly when I sent a message asking how Bruno was doing. She even sent pictures so I could see how happy he was. Their pricing for daycare and boarding is very reasonable. Especially for him getting to play at daycare all day, even while he was being boarded. Last time we left Bruno at another facility for this long, he did not have an appetite at all, and when we picked him up, he was mad at us for several days. But not with Mugus! He ate all his food at each meal and he was so happy to see us and be home with our family again. When I picked Bruno up with all his stuff, he didn’t smell like he had been staying in a kennel for 5 days. Even his bed, blanket and stuffy didn’t smell horrible. They all smelled like normal wear and tear of being used for 5 days. This is very important to me because I hadn’t gotten to take a tour of the boarding area before I got to leave Bruno with them. So I was a little worried about the cleanliness of his room. But my worries evaporated when he came home smelling like a normal Bruno. No smell of heavy cleaning products, and no smell of poop or pee residue. Thank you so much Mugus Pet Resort for keeping Bruno safe and happy while we were away! We will keep coming back for daycare and definitely use you to board Bruno in...
Read moreYou won’t find many bad reviews, but that’s not because this place is great. It’s because if you dare speak poorly the owner will message you and make you feel bad. So I am posting in hopes to represent those who don’t feel comfortable posting.
I have boarded my dogs with Mugus on multiple occasions and every time I have picked them up I left thinking “maybe next time it’ll be better”. The worst was the last time. My dogs had multiple new wounds and scabs. Multiple patches of missing fur. One of my dogs had lost a suspicious amount of weight (like 10lbs in about 1.5 weeks), and there was somehow no extra food, despite me knowing that one of my dogs (not the one that lost weight) never finishes theirs. They also REEKED of urine. I’m not talking accidentally peed on once, I’m talking they had clearly been laying in it for hours. For multiple days. Now my dogs are 100% potty trained and I’ve left them alone for 10 hours a day. So that tells me they were left in their kennel longer than 10 hours without being let out. When I picked up my dogs, I could tell something was off with them. Mugus claimed that the reason they were wet was because they had been playing outside (it was dry out and my dogs we retrieved from the inside kennels not outside. Plus they were wet with urine not water). They offered to bathe my dogs but I just wanted them out at that point. When we got home, my dog immediately peed in my home. Which if you know anything about dog behavior, means that they’re extremely distressed and upset. Clearly they were unhappy at mugus and after a few days at home they returned to normal bathroom habits. I will NEVER board at mugus again. In fact I will never board at a facility again. These guys do not love your dogs. They do not treat them like you do. They take in way more dogs than they can truly handle, which means your dog will be neglected. Do you and your dog a favor and don’t leave them here. Find someone private out of their home.
To add- when I had asked for recommendations I had someone private message me saying the owner of mugus threw a water bottle full of change at their dog right in front of them. I do not know why I ignored this red flag and I wish I hadn’t.
Also, I do not wish to be reached out to and had “my experience fixed” or apologized for. I will not be revealing my name either, as I do not wish to be messaged. But I can assure you I have boarded with mugus on...
Read moreWe were traveling with our pup Chewie and needed a place to leave her while we visited our son on King’s Bay Base. She is 8 years old, and we’ve never left her anywhere before, instead always paying a college student to come to our house and stay with her while we vacation places she cannot go.
Chewie is a tough-looking 70 lb. American Bulldog, but she was shaking as we entered Mugu’s lobby; all the barking and the other dogs peeking out from the behind the pool gate terrified her. When we told the lady behind the counter that our dog had rarely been around other dogs before, she called an attendant, who explained to us that she would take Chewie to the TV room where there were only a couple of sedentary dogs lying on a couch watching a movie. Chewie doesn’t watch TV as such, but we were happy that she would be out of all the commotion (even though the other dogs seemed to be enjoying themselves at the pool). We watched her lead Chewie into a separate room, and while we couldn’t go in there ourselves due to liability issues, we trust that Chewie was fine while we were gone because she did not seem traumatized at all upon our return a few hours later, just excited to see us. The nice attendant told us that our pup had settled on a couch and just relaxed there during the time we were away.
Booking a reservation at Mugu’s was easy to do online, and the prices were more than reasonable. If Chewie ever needs a place to stay in St. Mary’s again, we will return to Mugu’s. (As a side note, they also let us leave our food cooler in a corner of their lobby; otherwise, it would have been in our hot car as we toured the base and ate lunch....
