We had a near-perfect 4-night stay at the Box Y this last week, arriving on June 7 and departing (sadly) on June 11, 2021. After reaching Alpine, WY, it was our pleasure to make the 29-mile drive on a well-graded gravel road to get to the Box Y. For those intrepid souls who can cope with driving along the beautiful Greys River as it meanders along the valley between the Salt River and Wyoming mountain ranges, the rewards are rich and long-lasting. The Box Y exceeded all our expectations. We learned the ranch is run by people who care deeply about being stewards of the land and providing their best effort for each of their guests. Our cabin was clean, spacious and completely comfortable, with all we needed to feel at home. The meals were always delicious, hearty breakfasts to start the days and satisfying dinners we'll look forward to enjoying again on our next trip. We came to ride horses well-suited for mountain terrain. The wranglers had cleared trails that brought us to ridgelines covered with wild flowers and scenery that took our breath away. Megan, Dave and Riley were always there to ensure our safety and enjoyment. We could go on, but words can't adequately describe our Box Y experience. You'll need to check it out...
Read moreI can't say enough great things about Cindy, Tim, Meagan, and Riley and their Box Y Ranch. They took 6 novices out of the city, put us on horses, and we felt like pros. Their attention to detail, kindness, and professionalism made the ride a success for our group, aged 15 to 73. They had larger horses for our larger riders and small horses for the grandmas. They gave us easy to understand instructions and led us on a ride suited to our skill level.
The scenery was breathtaking, the horses gentle, and the guides knowledgeable and fun. We take an annual family vacation every year and my husband of 22 years said this is the most fun activity on any of those trips. We were staying in Jackson and the drive down to Alpine was beautiful and worth the journey. The road from Alpine to the ranch is mostly unpaved so allow extra time for that portion of the trip. My only regret is that we didn't book a longer ride! ...
Read moreWe road snowmobiles into this great guest ranch. That is the the only way you can access this gem in the winter. It is approximately 30 miles from Alpine, WY. Cabins have running water, propane heat, but no electricity so leave your hair dryer home. Very quiet and beautiful. Rustic, clean, cozy cabins. The food was fabulous, prime rib for dinner, quiche for breakfast , and hamburgers on homemade buns for lunch. Homemade dessert with every meal and everything was delicious. The snowmobiling was awesome, you could ride extreme or play it safe on very well marked trails. The ranch feeds elk nearby that you can go view, we also saw a moose. Gas is available to purchase, but expensive at $4.50 gal, but it's the only gas for 40 miles so well worth not hauling...
